everything in the Gaga fanbase has been pretty dull lately until the DWUW video case came up

I think a lot of people, fans especially, are not understanding that Gaga's intentions were not to trivialize rape, but to make a commentary about agency over one's body - as a woman, as a public figure, as a symbol of s-xuality to be devoured. I think R Kelly and Terry were chosen for this very reason. The video was, if anything, the exact OPPOSITE of an endorsement of rape. Saying it is would be like saying Marry the Night is an endorsement of whatever happened to her there, or that Swine is. Gaga probably was not happy with how the intentions of the video came across....or, she was, and this is a very clever way of garnering more publicity for this performance art piece she's pulling off. Either way, Gaga either was attempting to make a statement and decided not to because it was too likely to be misunderstood, or she is attempting to make a statement and risking being misunderstood. The former is probably wiser but the second is braver, and I can't fault her for either. I will say I don't think she's an idiot, and I think fans saying she didn't (at any point) understand the possible ramifications are underestimating both her intelligence and her ethics as an artist.

I honestly don't think "rape" even crossed her mind when she was creating this video. Gaga most likely sees R. Kelly and Terry as victims of the media. That's the vibe I get. Her whole thing is ART over MEDIA so I'm not surprised she adores Terry and R. Kelly. She doesn't care about the things people say about them. I think she scrapped the vid because it appears all over the place and cheapily made and she wasn't happy with the final product. And I don't think she wanted this to leak in the first place hence why TMZ never aired it in full and a lot of sites took down the video at Gaga's request. Also I believe Terry was chosen because of his work with Miley on "Wrecking Ball", not for some message.

Terry was chosen for the concept of the video. He flied with Gaga everywhere in 2012, and knows how hard everythng is and actually recorded A LOT. not because Miley did it.

The only shocking thing about the video is that it is a collaborative effort WITH TWO ALLEGED SEXUAL PREDATORS, R.Kelly and Terry, in a video for a song called 'Do What U Want'.

 

 

Gaga's videos have been featuring too much obscenity or nudity since Lovegame. So I don't see the what's so shocking about her humping nude in a video when we all know she's used to it...

Tbh I don't know why people think this video is so bad, some of her earlier videos are equally as explicit.

Basically, I think it goes like this:

1. The video is cancelled.*

2. People speculate why, and notice that Terry Richardson and R. Kelly are involved in the video.

3. People come to regard their own speculations as fact, despite Gaga contradicting them.

4. When TMZ releases snippets, they of course present it filtered through their own sleazy mentality. And since this is how most people are exposed to the video, they're influenced by these ideas, too (reinforcing point 3).

5. People perceive the video in an unrealistic way, based not on what it is, but on what they've come to expect.

* Not that Gaga ever actually said so, but, that's a whole other discussion...
