Mills 446
The biggest risk they've done yet without a doubt. The song is a controversy magnet that it's bound to either fly off successfully or backfire big time. It did the latter and caused the album's momentum to slow down (and in the process alienated some people who felt their faith was mocked). But was it really her mistake? No. The song wasn't even included in the line-up of singles Gaga has initially planned. It's a great song, but there were obviously far better choices for a second single at that time. Some predictions were even saying that she might score a second #1 debut back then - all brought by the massive hype.

Paper Gangsta 6,693
The first time Lady Gaga played us the tune she told us that in broad terms it was about being in love with the worst guy you've ever met, but as you might expect there's more to it than that. "It's about leaving your darkness behind in order to come into the light," she added the other day. "I have a lot of things that have haunted me from my past - choices, men, d--g abuse, being afraid to go back to New York, confronting old romances - and Judas represents, for me, something that is bad for me that I can't escape. I keep going back and forth between the darkness and the light in order to understand who I am it is written. i swear i didn't look at any videos Where did you get idea Judas is reincarnation of antichrist? Also check quote i posted its her explaining the song. Read till the end.

Judas was feeling guilty late amd he commited suicide because he knew he did mistake. If he knew he did mistake, how will he suddenly became antichrist? I may be reaching but I think they subconsciously compared her to Madonna after the whole BTW/EY controversy (which I wouldn't want to relive even as a guest on GGD. It was awful) and they thought they could have a hit similar to Like a Prayer that was successful because of religious controversy (as Madonna was similarly at the peak of her career) and piggy back off of that. Also I think they thought since Alejandro was successful and it's video (in all it's gory goodness) had religious references that it could work for her again. Tbh I think the release around Easter was a bad idea. It definitely contributed to its less that stellar commercial and critical reception. If YouTube counted video streams back then, I'm sure it would've been slightly more successful especially in SA since they get the most views if we're talking about chart positions. Some people say he was possessed by satan. IDK. I was just saying how the story of Gaga's Judas reminded me of the people in revelations. thefamefatale 264
A lot of my friends say this as well. Even Trisha (blndsundoll4mj) on YouTube says she dislikes her now because of the release of this song. don't be a drag
MurderLipstick 44
It's interesting though. Judas betrayed Jesus, and now the media has betrayed Gaga (in the sense that most articles that discuss her are slander). She was right during the BTWB when she did a short monologue before Judas. "Some of you will follow me, and others will betray me." But no matter what, I will always follow her music. It's too good not to! :)
Klou 2,414
Let's not blame Gaga's downturn in popularity on one song that most people aren't even aware of. Judas didn't even have a negative message and the video supported that. The Alejandro video was much more controversial and she later opened BTW with over 1 million. No Angel 128
Was it a mistake to release it as a single? Possibly. Is "Judas" a horrible song? Hell naw!
iloveit123 130
Yeah, I have to admit, Gaga nearly killed me as a fan when "Judas" was released... not because of the religious stuff, i just cannot stand the song (primarily the chorus), nor the video. To each their own, though. The song seems to divide people.
