MahoganySnitch 67
Omg this. I saw this on the news a couple of months ago. Too bad they are taking jobs from REAL Americans to provide us with the food that goes down our throats. I just remembered this meme that might be my most favorite thing ever:
Willy Wonka 4
Wow, i'd love to be living in the utopian society these members seem to be living in! It seems like a really great place! These people are coming to America because of one reason; it is better than their home country, for whatever reason. They come here searching for opportunities, and I think that their contributions to American society are part of what makes us great. When done legally. Don't act like the legal channels don't exist. The US still continues to have the largest immigrant population and immigration rate just by legal channels. That can be a great thing. But when these people try to come into the country, for whatever reason, in the numbers they are doing right now, they are and will continue to destroy the US. That's not an exaggeration, that's a really. If it wasn't a reality, I'd be completely open to all the immigrants out there! I'd welcome them with open arms! But that's not the world we live in. Illegal immigration is easily one of the top, if not THE top domestic crisis this country is facing this very second. Over a hundred B-I-L-L-I-O-N dollars is being ripped out of our already struggling economy. Does that not terrify anyone else?! And it's not that I'm trying to play up "REAL" americans having their jobs taken away to be given to another person from another country. It has nothing to do with patriotism. It has everything to do with the fact that illegals work for cents. That in turn drives down the wages of all the other workers in that direct field because they could easily be replaced with illegal workers. It doesn't matter how hard they are working "in the fields". It doesn't matter if they intend to throw the US into economic turmoil. If they keep crossing the border that the accelerated rate they are right now, there will no longer be a safe-haven for a land of opportunity for the law-abiding immigrants to go to. Both the families I come from immigrated to the US through legal channel. It can be done. It is done now more than ever before! And it's not like the US is the only stable country to go to!! Just think: how many American boys and girls are hungry RIGHT NOW because their parents both lost their jobs and couldn't find work, say in Arizona, because of the effects of illegal immigration. I'm not even defending my own money being taxed; I'm financially secure enough that I don't need to worry about my future when it comes to taxes. What I AM worried for are he millions of americans that will be hit by the economic depression that illegal immigrants will bring the US down the road, especially for my children and grandchildren. Is that why the US economy looses more than 100 billion dollars to illegal immigrant per year??? IMMIGRANTS were and are one of the backbones of the US. Illegal immigrants very much hurt the country. That is impossible to spin any other way 1. To start off with, no one is saying we live in a utopia. What we are saying is that your lack of empathy is appalling and your demonization of illegal immigrants is bombastic. You're coming as xenophobic because you seem so apathetic to the plight of illegal immigrants. To put it simply, people are saying stop being a dick about illegal immigrants. Gain some perspective on the situation. They are inherently bad people just because they crossed the border. Calm down. 2. Not this argument about illegal immigrants taking jobs from Americans. "That immigrants take the jobs of American-born citizens is “something that virtually no learned person believes in,†Alex Nowrasteh, an immigration expert at the libertarian Cato Institute, said at a Thursday panel. “It’s sort of a silly thing.†http://www.nationaljournal.com/congress/left-and-right-agree-immigrants-don-t-take-american-jobs-20130322 Although many are concerned that immigrants compete against Americans for jobs, the most recent economic evidence suggests that, on average, immigrant workers increase the opportunities and incomes of Americans. Based on a survey of the academic literature, economists do not tend to find that immigrants cause any sizeable decrease in wages and employment of U.S.-born citizens (Card 2005), and instead may raise wages and lower prices in the aggregate (Ottaviano and Peri 2008; Ottaviano and Peri 2010; Cortes 2008). One reason for this effect is that immigrants and U.S.-born workers generally do not compete for the same jobs; instead, many immigrants complement the work of U.S. employees and increase their productivity. http://www.brookings.edu/blogs/jobs/posts/2012/05/04-jobs-greenstone-looney The a--lysis yields no evidence that foreignborn workers, taken in the aggregate, hurt US employment. Even under the current immigration patternâ€â€which is not designed to maximize job creation, has at least eight million unauthorized workers, and prioritizes family reunificationâ€â€there is no statistically significant effect, either positive or negative, on the employment rate among US natives. The results thus do not indicate that immigration leads to fewer jobs for US natives. http://www.aei-ideas.org/2013/01/how-does-immigration-affect-us-wages-and-jobs/ The most accurate way to gauge the net impact of immigration on such an economy is to a--lyze the effects dynamically over time. Data show that, on net, immigrants expand the U.S. economy’s productive capacity, stimulate investment, and promote specialization that in the long run boosts productivity. Consistent with previous research, there is no evidence that these effects take place at the expense of jobs for workers born in the United States. http://www.frbsf.org/economic-research/publications/economic-letter/2010/august/effect-immigrants-us-employment-productivity/ I don't think I need to continue. 3. Let's address this mythical crime that illegal immigrants bring to the US. "Foreign-born Mexicans had an incarceration rate of only 0.7 percent in 2000, more than 8 times lower than the 5.9 percent rate of native-born males of Mexican descent," he said.So why might immigrants have a lower incarceration rate?"The vast majority of immigrants who come to the United States do so to seek a better life," Rumbaut said. "Committing crimes would undermine the very project that would lead them to leave their country. In the case of the undocumented, the effect is magnified. They are living clandestine lives, under the threat of deportation. The last thing they want to do is bring themselves to the attention of authorities." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/15/immigration-crime-statistics_n_1089164.html Nationally, since 1994, the violent crime rate has declined 34% and the property crime rate has fallen 26%, even as the number of undocumented immigrants has doubled. According to the conservative Americas Majority Foundation, crime rates during the period 1999–2006 were lowest in states with the highest immigration growth rates. During that period the total crime rate fell 14% in the 19 top immigration states, compared to only 7% in the other 31. Truth is, foreign-born people in America  whether they are naturalized citizens, permanent residents, or undocumented  are incarcerated at a much lower rate than native-born Americans, according to the National Institute of Corrections. http://www.policymic.com/articles/43599/8-of-the-most-vicious-myths-about-illegal-immigrants Sampson and colleagues recently examined more than 3,000 violent acts committed in Chicago from 1995 to 2003, a--lyzing police records, census data and a survey of more than 8,000 residents. They discovered what Sampson calls the "Latino Paradox"  first-generation Mexican immigrants were 45% less likely to engage in violence than third-generation Americans. This pattern continued into the second generation, which was 22% less likely to be violent. Similar trends have been seen in New York and Miami, both of which have large immigrant enclaves. "Immigrant communities are often responsible for revitalizing the urban neighborhoods that they live in," Sampson says. The irony of people's popular misconceptions, he adds, is "that the longer one is exposed to American culture, the more likely you are to participate in violence." http://content.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1717575,00.html Stop with the fear mongering lies and get your **** together. Joel 877
Calling them criminals is technically correct, but to call them criminals with the amount of hate you seem to be putting into it is disgusting. Homos-xuals in some countries are also technically criminals for harming absolutely no one. If you think an immigrant breaking their back in the fields is hurting you by taking "REAL" American's jobs then I sympathize for you. Please complain about paying taxes to keep REAL criminals like rapists and murderers housed in jails, but don't complain about your taxes going to an innocent child who's unfortunately growing up in poverty. MahoganySnitch 67
The solution is simple, stop trying to come over illegally The US has enough of our own problems to deal with That's like telling poor people to stop being poor...
MJHolland 12,725
That's like telling poor people to stop being poor... No, it's like tell a fat person to stop eating. It's an extremely simple one step solution. If you don't what your kids in a crowded room, don't bring them to the crowed room! If you're morbidly obese, stop eating fat-a**!!! Starving yourself out to lose weight may work in the short term, but wrecks you long-term. You need a comprehensive approach-you don't just starve out an obese person lol. The same with immigration. MJHolland 12,725
This entire post is honestly all fear mongering rhetoric that has no significant factual backing. I recall you stating in a few posts back the stat that I brought up too -- the one about illegal immigration costing the US economy 100 billion dollar annually. How does that constitute the American economy backbone? Look, this whole thread boils down to what you think the government's role should be in the peoples' lives. For me, the government should have an extremely small role in the day to day lives on an individual. I don't think we should be providing housing for tax-paying citizens; I don't think we should be paying for an illegal alien's housing either. The government does too much as it is for the law-abiding citizens. Social programs should be cut down to a fraction of what they are atm. But I guess if you don't believe in individual responsibility, you just have a different philosophy . Sorry, but we shouldn't be legally required to fork up out tax-dollars and/or redistribute our government spending power that could be used for our children's education to pay for a nice, more hospitable hold cell. It's tough, but illegal immigrants came here with the full knowledge that the law would not welcome them (rather be encouraged and morally persuaded to give to charities and volunteer by our own volitions!). No matter how you spin it, illegal immigration is still illegal, yes - it's still a crime, and the government does not welcome you. We're starting to create a society where instead of limiting the government from our lives (like it was meant to be by the founding fathers as they created this nation), people are turning to the government and demanding that they get the money they are entitled to. Entitlement programs are BS. Your aren't entitled to a-n-y-o-n-e-'s money but your own. Get you hand out of the f**kin jar.

Things don't always work out the way you intend. And if you are angry about the use of your tax dollars, then in the words of Jon Stewart, join the club. Where are the refunds for the invasion of Iraq that I and many others disagreed with? You don't really choose where your tax money is allocated. Starving yourself out to lose weight may work in the short term, but wrecks you long-term. You need a comprehensive approach-you don't just starve out an obese person lol. The same with immigration. it's not hard. Calories in = Calories out. It's literally physics and biology. Conservation of energy plus metabolism. If you are gaining weight, it is because you are eating too much. Period. Lack of exercise doesn't make someone fat; fundamentally it's what they eat. To make weight loss easier, you should exercise more. But if you want to loose weight, all you have to do is put down the BigMac and pick up a salad. That's it. That's literally it. By "stop eating", I mean that all you need to do is stop eating sh**. An obese person has never stayed fat by salads/fruit/vegetables, etc. It's a perfect comparison. If you don't want your kids in these places in America, then don't come to America. But I guarantee that their parents are extremely thankful that their kids are in those holding cells compared to their native homes if "instability" is what they were really running from. Whispering 18,865
Why can't your kids pay for their own college education with scholarships and working part time? You said you were financially secure anyway, so why are you so worried about your children's education in the first place? If your children have a guaranteed college education in the cards, why would immigrants working 12 hour days in the fields and cleaning houses be "taking a job away from your children" ? Are they going to get a four year degree and then go work in the fields? Your tax dollars go to their education from K-12 and a thousand other services that have absolutely NOTHING to do with housing illegal immigrants. Who do you think pays for the military that protects you and your children? Where do you think the money comes from for police and fire protection for your family? The list could go on and on...
