Why was the BTW era dubbed a flop but not the Prism era?

Born This Way had a political message. Prism doesn't.

Because Gaga first era was very succesful album and single-wise and each era the success has decreased continuously. On the other hand Katy has experienced the opposite. She becomes more successful with each era, even though no Katy era is as successful as Gaga's The Fame era.

I agree with the first part, but Katy peaked with the last end of the TD era. She has been stabilizing ever since Prism came out imo

who will love me when the night is over

Because Katy Perry releases music that GP will like. She's constantly on the radio.

Plus its Gaga, anything she does is heavily criticized

holy scheisse

Because people were uncomfortable by the message of Born This Way, Judas created even more of a religious backlash against her, she was dressing in ways which were quite far from conventional beauty, and everybody loves to see the decay of the blonde superstar tbh. She also slightly alienated most of her fans by focusing on minorities/outcasts/etc.

Theres much less to rip apart about the Prism era. Katy always dresses conventionally beautifully, her music is bubblegum pop and catchy as f*ck, etc etc... she's safer from being bashed bc theres less to attack except for the fact that she's just a run-of-the-mill popstar, but nobody cares about that bc she's currently the favorite run-of-the-mill popstar

And Prism isn't risky at all like BTW, if katy released a "judas" she would've been gone, bye R.I.P, who's katy? *i don't know her gif*

By who was the BTW era dubbed a flop, though? By who should the Prism era be called a flop? Which people are you talking about?

this, I've never heard that the album and era was a flop, I only heard that Judas and Marry The Night were flop singles tbh.

Look at the articles from 2011 about how much BTW flopped (even tho it didn't), peopl acted like Gaga was on her way out because Adele was outselling her.

Well, then I guess you answered your own question  Gaga had serious competition and now Katy doesn't. Which is why the BTW era was called a flop (by some) and the Prism era is not.

On the other hand Katy has experienced the opposite. She becomes more successful with each era,

TD era:  five #1 singles

Prism era: two #1 singles

When you're extremely relevant people will talk about you, more often than not in a negative way. When you're Katy Perry, people will use you like McDonald's and then forget about you.

Because only pop fans cares about Katy.

The whole world cares about Gaga.

It's a down, but what she was able to do is she's always a step more successful than current pop star in the same lap of time.
