Cody Draco 2,531
I didn't know where to post this since I'm new here and this is only my 2nd thread, so I'm sorry if it's in the wrong place. I realized something tonight and my intention is not to start a war. ARTPOP has been considered pretentious by a lot of people, but nobody seems to consider Prism pretentious? I would like to see what people have to say on this matter. I was really excited when Katy Perry said this album was going to be darker and then she made what she made and the only two songs I would consider dark are Dark Horse and By The Grace of God? I am also confused as to what Prism as a concept has to do with any of Katy Perry's songs or this era of hers in general. Someone please educate me. I would like to know more than I do currently about the whole Prism concept because maybe I just don't understand the album? Thank you and I really hope this isn't a bad thread or in the wrong place. :shy:

DrewStevens 5,249
I think the ARTPOP term makes it look pretentious but Gaga described it as a happy and free record. PRISM was described as a mature album and clearly is not.

Princess Die 1,864
Katy IS awfully pretentious for spouting synthetic crap, yes. But Gags's set the bar really, really high... Nod if you wanna make love with the enemy. ❤

Dr Rogoe 23
ARTPOP: Good concept, but lack commercial execution (promotion) + media backlash = flop PRISM: Good initial concept, but scrapped in favor of charts and sales = commercially successful but lack depth I guess. Cody Draco 2,531
I'm really sorry if this is a lousy thread guys, I just really don't understand Prism at all and I personally don't think ARTPOP is pretentious I just think that people had expectations for it to be the album of the millennium. So maybe Prism isn't pretentious I was just expecting something else? I'm a mess sorry everyone I just want to understand, but I guess with Katy there is nothing to understand. I'm personally not a fan of Katy's work, but I'm the kind of person that wants to understand where everyone is coming from.

Celina 118
ARTPOP definitely isn't as pretentious as people make it out to be. I feel like there's a lot of misunderstanding. I can't speak for Prism though, b/c I don't know how Katy hyped it.
