She basically confirms what I've been saying all along that there is no Act II. I'm disappointed that I have to post it here too. ย Let's have a small lesson on this subject matter, shall we? ย According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, lip-syncing is "to pretend to sing or say (recorded words)" (Source). Further, according to Wikipedia, lip syncing "is a technical term for matching lip movements with sung or spoken vocals" (Source). So, essentially, lip syncing is moving one's mouth to the tune of pre-recorded vocals - whether they be straight from the initial studio recordings of a song or specially recorded for the occasion - to make it seem like the vocals are being sung live, when in actuality, they are not. ย Now let's look at a different, but remotely related, subject: backing vocals and backing tracks. Backing vocals are those "extra vocal parts which fill in gaps, or harmonize with, the lead vocal line" (Source). A backing track is an audio "recording that musicians play or sing along to in order to add parts to their music which would be impractical to perform live" (Source). Often, backing tracks simply take the studio version of a song and strip it of its lead vocals, leaving the backing vocals to be the standout of the song until a live voice is placed over them in place of the studio lead vocals. In some other cases, lead vocals are stripped only from the verses, and are left in the chorus. And there are still other variations. It's all up to the artist how they wish to do it. Now that we have some definitions down, let's apply them to the person in question here: Gaga. She claims she doesn't lip sync, and I have to agree - I have yet to see an example of her moving her mouth to a song with no live vocals being produced from them. What she does utilize is use a backing track. (Which is in no way reprehensible I might add, as most other pop stars use them.) Often times, this backing track is so loud that it will overshadow her voice, almost so that it seems that she is singing 'under' it, but that is not the same thing as lip syncing. ย An example I've seen posted numerous times to back up the idea that Gaga supposedly lip syncs is videos of her Paparazzi performances during the initial dates of the artRave. While I can see how this could be confused as proof of her lip syncing to some, I must disagree: in the initial dates of the tour, she had the studio lead vocals playing in the chorus, which, along with the backing vocals of the song, were so exorbitantly loud that her live vocals seemed akin to a whisper in comparison. However, if one listens closely, her live vocals can be heard. (Watch this video to hear what I'm talking about.) Thankfully, though, this isn't a problem anymore, as she has since both removed the studio main vocals and lowered the pitch of the song, so that her live vocals now are much more audible and clear. It's always the same in every thread. ย When the pre-recorded backing track is so loud that you can't hear the real live voice, it is almost the same as lip-synchingรยขรขโยฌยฆ. In art rave (but also in BTWball) all the choruses are pre-recorded. Gaga might be singing over it, but nobody hears her real voice so it's exactly the same as lip-synchingรยขรขโยฌยฆ. I hate that. Gaga has a powerful and soulful voice like no other contemporary popstars so why doesn't she use it??? She is so talented and I get angry when I see that she's becoming lazy.
