ChicaSkas 22,993
I cant at a mod promoting vandalism and carrying knives Carrying a knife in the streets is illegal in quite a few European countries and removing this isn't allowed either, Western Europe's a lot more civilised than 'Murica It's very different here. Here in parts of Los Angeles, this kind of postering and plastering is not condoned by the city, it's considered a nuisance and public defacement / graffiti. Therefore, actively removing the posters is doing the city a service since they are destined to be removed anyway or plastered over by more ads yet again. By removing a poster here -- I am not vandalising. I am removing vandalization. For example, here in LA, there are signs on walls and construction sites that clearly read, "Post No Bills -- Will Prosecute" and what this means is, any 'billets', or posters, or advertisements put up, or filmed being put up, for any reason, will be taken to court. Example: People do scoff at that though,as you can see here: It depends on the situation. Here you can't be arrested for carrying a basic utility knife, I need one on my real life job all the time, it's a very common thing. Usually here, even in "murica", you can walk down the street with one. Do YOU own the 4' by 6' Perfect Illusion promo Poster? Will pay you for it. degenerate 526
Why are they so rare? And who puts them up? Local record companies in association with Interscope or something?
ChicaSkas 22,993
Why are they so rare? And who puts them up? Local record companies in association with Interscope or something? They are rare because:1. They are produced in limited quantities (100, 500) per city for the purpose of outdoor display.2. They are not built to last, at best they are made of thin cardboard, at worst, thin paper, that is then plastered over with a kind of glue called wheatpaste. This paste laminates and lacquers them to the wall, making them a challenge to remove, but worth it. Because they are difficult to remove and obtain by collectors, anyone who can get one or who happens to catch them as they are being put up -- always in the dead of night -- is a lucky lucky fellow. The resale on pieces like these is very high because there is a high collectible demand and there are very few which make it up on Ebay or into the hands of private collectors.3. Being only paper with a little glue, they cannot withstand the elements well, either. Wind, rain, snow, hot sun, all of these can tear, warp, distort and fade the images. So the better condition yours in the, the more valuable it is to collectors.Essentially, because not many are made, and very few survive being in public --- these are about the rarest things you can have in your collection. To answer your second question: not much is known about who puts them up, or who funds it, and it's very rare to have fine print that details a printing house, or company.Usually it's a third party: people employed by a printing house who drive around at 3 am and apply posters with buckets of glue and mops. The record label or the venue itself likely orders the posters made and has them farmed out to the printers who have the drivers go out and apply them. It's almost always very late at night, you must be alert and spot out areas where posters have been put up before , to see if you can catch them being put up again.
