Snowyrain 38
GUY and Do What U Want were perfect singles and had they been Katys they would've gone straight to number one. They didn't do well because people have a negative perception of Gaga and the media tries to make her look like a fool. Applause did well because it was the lead single and even then it didn't do as well as people wanted. Had Do What U Want been the lead single it would have surpassed Applause success and would've been a better start to the era. I don't think like you but okay

blacklistedd 599
I don't think like you but okay  It doesn't matter what Gaga releases most of the time, people don't "respond" to it because they don't want to and don't let themselves. They have a negative perception of her and despite how infectious or good a song she releases might be, they come up with reasons as to why they think its bad. Not to mention Gaga doesn't get proper radio support most of the time anyway. Where they may pound another song into peoples brains until they accept it, they'll take her song and sort of try it for a week and then toss it aside. Imo a lot of pop success is about conditioning, people aren't conditioned to like her anymore they're conditioned to dislike her.
Laceface 2,964
DWUW could have really explained her struggle during the blackout, and the documentary to go with it

You are right at the bolded part but it is not ALL about that, of course people's thoughts about Gaga damaged to the songs but it affected 1M potential buyers at MOST. it didn't turned off the entire GP. Well because I think Applause is a good pop song, I do like it im not saying all this because I think it did poorly or because I don't, im just saying I think if it were second or third single it would've suffered the same or worse fate than the other 2 and had Do What U Want been first single it would've done even better than Applause. And I think the past 2 singles underperformance isn't about the quality of the songs, but the fact that the GP does not want to consume her because shes her. It genuinely makes no logical sense that those songs falter while songs like Timber, Counting Stars, and Dark Horse are topping the charts. Its obvious that its not about the songs themselves but is a reflection of how Gaga is perceived these days. Im not a delusional fan that wants to make excuses for her, but I do believe that in this case its just the truth. Its not something people want to admit for fear of being branded delusional. blacklistedd 599
Nope. I don't think DWUW would do better as a lead single , that's it  Nope. I mean it went straight to #1 as a promo single, had that been the lead it would've gone straight to #1, only difference is it would've stayed there and in the Top 10. It wouldn't have fallen off. Opulence 1,380
Aura for sure, the freshness of the track would've grabbed everyone's attention like TFM gags did... Applause was TOO generic and radio friendly that it backlashed, it's not what the GP wanted but sadly it's what most monsters wanted

jxckk 959
Probably Venus but I feel like Aura would have had a lot of hype about it aswell.
JusticeforVenus 950
people needed weird Gaga stuff .... Venus was the right choice... and of course DWUW as a second single could have killed the basics... and Gypsy /applause as the third.... G.U.Y. never
