jfc. ok im not gonna act like gaga did anything either but dammit, none of the ppl on the list have had any ****ing influence this year. it's all about who's most popular. like benedict is only there cuz ppl like sherlock, but jeez, he's just an actor after all, he's not sherlock. 

 

im really pissed bout katy, but not surprised. the only difference is that 3 years ago, when gaga was on top, at least she wasn't buying all the radio station and stuff

Mess that they featured Marina Abramovic, but not Gaga, even though Gaga made her a part of her ARTPOP project and put her name out there for millions of people who had no idea who she was until then. Marina likely wouldn't have been on this list if it weren't for Gaga. Some nerve they have not to feature her. They did the right thing by not featuring Katy, Beiber or Lorde, but I can't believe they actually chose Miley. And can someone explain to me why Justin Timberlake didn't even get submitted for consideration? He was one of the biggest artists of last year who went through a very publicised comeback. And why in the name of all that is holy is Carrie Underwood on the list? She did barely nothing last year. She did a further 50 or so tour dates (that typically played to less than 10,000 people a night and only made $51 million with 114 dates) and released a single that barely scraped the Billboard top 40. I'd rather someone that had underwhelming sales or was hated last year was on the list as opposed to someone who barely did anything.

Well Carrie is more than a touring artist.  She's a philanthropist(Red Cross, C.A.T. Foundation) and starred in the Sound of Music that got over 20 Million views the night it aired.  She had multiple gigs varying from the Rolling Stones, the Emmys, and singing the NFL Sunday Night Football theme.  Also had exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame.  Won a Grammy and a few other awards.  Released a touring video that went to #1 for a few weeks.  What else do you want from a person?

I wish Time had a better sense of relevancy with their choices. If Carrie can make it onto the list, how come Gaga, who had a much bigger year, is nowhere to be found?

There's a lot of people, if not most, that shouldn't be on the list by that option.  That makes sense, but not forget that the magazine needs to sell issues to the American public that would rather see people they like than people they don't know.  It's a popularity contest.
