Abra did its best having under consideration the Kendrick bomb and how music was charting at the time. Her team actually planned things well. Lol.17 points

Goalpost shifted, but also: why is it so difficult to believe that he might genuinely want to use his platform for good? He consistently speaks out against wars, economic inequality, and social injustice. I get being cynical about organized religion, but it’s not insignificant that this Pope has consistently stood against the powerful and with the powerless since being appointed. Regardless of how you, I, or anyone may feel about the Catholic Church, him saying this is a net good.16 points

A “wall of elite vocabulary” and it’s basically one sentence with no especially dense or complicated language Also, “sounding like the same algorithms we are being warned about” is basically meaningless. You’re asking someone using their massive platform to meaningfully critiquing AI displacing labor to avoid “AI vibes” because it…makes you uncomfortable or something? Like what are we talking about lol11 points

Hot take: Gaga could score 0 commercial hits going forward and I'd be absolutely content. As long as she keeps delivering phenomenal works of music like REQUIEM, HARLEQUIN, MAYHEM BALL then we're good. Plus in the end she'll always have baseball stadiums..11 points

I mean, if she released Abra on Friday, she would’ve missed out on the Grammy release promo. The only real error as far as I see it is the lack of physical copies and maybe remixes.11 points

Pope Leo XVI combatting the idea that humans only derive worth through labor/output: “Among these ideologies, I consider particularly insidious the one that suggests that every person must earn or justify his or her own worth, to the point of attributing greater value to those who are more efficient or effective. From this perspective, persons end up being reduced to a means of achieving results, a resource to be used and exploited, and are no longer recognized as a proper end in themselves who should never be instrumentalized. The value of persons, however, does not depend on what they achieve or produce. There are rights that apply to everyone simply by virtue of being human, and no human power can legitimately deny or arbitrarily limit them.”10 points

Release physical copies and also release the video and song on the same day, that day being Friday. None of this mid week stuff.10 points

“Obsession” is, well, the obsession of the box office. That’s after the low-budget horror film earned $22 million from 2,655 North American theaters in its second weekend and a projected $28.2 million through the Memorial Day holiday. Those ticket sales are 30% above its debut (an impressive $17.2 million from 2,615 cinemas) — a virtually unprecedented increase for a movie that was already in wide release. It’s especially uncommon for horror, a genre that’s notorious for falling sharply after opening weekend. So far, “Obsession” has generated $58.5 million in North America and $74 million worldwide. It was produced for less than $1 million and will easily become one of the year’s most profitable releases. One of the funniest fan interactions Gaga’s had that I think about all the time starting at 6:35. *fan mimes feeling up Gaga’s t*ts* “You love my boobs? Okay, go ahead.” *fan feels Gaga’s boobs* ”Good job. Is that your mom? Was that okay, mom? She’s like, ‘Not really, but…’ *laughs* No, just said, ‘NO, I SAID I LIKED IT!’”9 points

Another passage that feels especially relevant in the era of AI “art”: "We must, then, avoid the 'Babel syndrome,' namely the idolatry of profit that sacrifices the weak, a uniformity that neutralizes differences, and the pretense that a single language — even a digital one — can translate everything, including the mystery of the person, into data and performance."9 points

Ngl I honestly don’t think that’s true. If anything, I think centrists are probably more unpopular than they’ve ever been because Trump 2.0 has shown how thoroughly morally and ideologically bankrupt they are and how disinterested they are in actually governing (not to mention the positions most centrists hold are widely unpopular). I know not everything’s about Israel, but I think supporting Israel (and AIPAC candidates) was basically the centrist position: both parties did it, people either didn’t care or actively supported it. Now, AIPAC money is radioactive in both parties and the “centrists” (center-left and center-right) are scrambling to adjust their messaging without losing donor money while they hemorrhage support. I think this dynamic also extends well beyond Israel as well (Gen AI + data centers, Epstein, economic populism). I think, if anything, the country is probably more primed than ever for a genuine economic populist who’s socially progressive because the material conditions have gotten so bad that the bottom is falling out of a lot of the culture war machine because people don’t have the bandwidth to give a **** about stuff like that, so they’d probably be more open to voting for, let’s say, a candidate that supports LGBTQ+ issues if they spend the bulk of their campaign fighting for affordability (basically the Bernie Sanders model).9 points

date: may 25 It was a very busy day for her. in 2009, she performed live at the chapel. wore a bubble dress, newspaper dress , hairbow , was holding her tea cup etc personally, this was my first time seeing the full thing full show: https://youtu.be/Mu7ZWT4m9gc thanks to gagamediaarchives in 2011 she was promoting 'edge of glory' on the season 10 finale of American Idol 2014 she was on tour with the artRAVE in Toronto, Canada. earlier that day (another day, another slay) in 2015 lady vancouver gave us this look. and she was also in the middle of the Cheek to Cheek Tour in that city. in 2018 she served 2 vintage looks while arriving at and leaving Electric Lady Studios probably to record her album with Tony today in 2020 only 4 days remained until Chromatica’s release 2 years of Gaga's chromatica ball being available on hbo max and the beggining of the mayhem era that's all this is really fun to do I could call it my new hyperfixation. It also shows just how much Lady Gaga has evolved and how much we’ve experienced as fans throughout the years.8 points

Following a years-long restoration and preservation effort, the Palace of the Despots within the legendary medieval castle town of Mystras has fully opened its gates to the world. This extensive project takes a modern, holistic approach to heritage preservation, combining climate-resilient infrastructure and universal accessibility with immersive museum exhibitions that bring the twilight of the Byzantine Empire back to life. Perched dramatically on the slopes of Mount Taygetos in the Peloponnese, Mystras is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most important cultural treasures of the medieval world. Founded in the mid-13th century, it grew from a Frankish fortress into the brilliant capital of the Despotate of the Morea—a powerful, semi-autonomous principality governed by the sons or brothers of the reigning Byzantine Emperors. In its 14th and 15th-century golden age, Mystras was a bustling hub of art, politics, and philosophy, serving as the final vibrant cultural capital of the Byzantine world before its fall. At the literal and symbolic peak of this medieval city stands the Palace of the Despots. It is the only surviving Byzantine palatial complex in Greece. The majestic palace is an architectural chronicle of power, bearing the footprints of both Frankish conquerors and the great Byzantine imperial dynasties: the Kantakouzenos and the Palaiologos. On Transhumanism and Posthumanism, Pope Leo XIV writes: “If the human being is treated as something to be perfected or surpassed, it becomes easier to accept that some lives are less useful, less desirable or less worthy. In the name of progress, ‘necessary sacrifices’ may begin to be justified, placing the burden on the most vulnerable in pursuit of a supposed optimization of the species. … For this reason, a clear distinction must be made. It is one thing to integrate technology within a human-centered, relational vision; it is quite another to be guided by an outlook that devalues human limits and promises a purely technical form of ‘salvation.’”8 points

Despite what some might say, Gaga is an incredible place right now in the mainstream. It's very hard for newer material to stick the landing with the insane flood of nostalgia type tracks from tiktok. However she had an impressive moment with MAYHEM era, DWAS and Abracadabra.8 points

I’m gonna say probably not, given that the overwhelming majority of the speech is about social and economic justice. Not to mention that AI often reflexively avoids dispelling entire belief systems and will usually push back against any categorical attempt to claim that they’re false wholesale.7 points

gaga is hugely and massively successful, the chart run of a single really means absolutely nothing she had over 2 million people turn up for her concert, why does Abra or Runway's chart run matter if she has that kind of massively profitable reach more money is made in touring than music sales so her team has no cause for concern until she starts struggling to sell out arenas her team and the movie studio putting no effort beyond a music video into promoting Runway just makes it obvious they didn't care for its chart run, it was just a fun single to promote the movie yet people still put it in the context of a pop single released by a new, upcoming artist7 points

I mean, even trying to assign a per-capita GDP to Vatican City doesn’t really make a lot of sene, given that like 800 people live there and the revenue is predominantly from tourism. When you divide that tourist revenue by a tiny population, you’re essentially creating an artificially inflated GDP. Also the tax money from Italy that goes to the Vatican is, as I understand it, basically voluntary under the Lateran Treaty (citizens can choose to send a portion of their tax revenue to support the Vatican). Outside of any of that, the Vatican doesn’t have any real sovereign wealth or huge liquid assets. Also, ns, but comparing the Catholic Church providing education and healthcare as a form of soft power to the literal crusades is a massive stretch. Is it aimed at accruing good will and, hopefully, converts? Sure. Does that erase the actual good it does? Not substantially.6 points

My gay ass would be clocked so hard by some people (not miss RenegAde). I was flying out of LA one night and the city lights were illuminating the bottom of the clouds in this dull orange color and then we broke through the clouds and the city disappeared and it was just the full moon casting a pure silver light on the top of the clouds as we climbed. That sight had me writing in my notes app for the next five hours about love and humanity I stan miss XIV for the way this factual statement was written6 points

Another relevant passage that gets at the issue of AI as a form of consolidated labor exploitation: “In practice, however, technology is never neutral, because it takes on the characteristics of those who devise it, finance it, regulate it and use it.”6 points

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says she hasn't decided whether to run for president, but the New York congresswoman is making new moves toward a possible White House bid. Just in May, Ocasio-Cortez has: Rallied voters in Philadelphia for a left-wing congressional candidate in a competitive primary. Spoken at a rally in Montgomery, Ala., about voting rights. Addressed the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta with Georgia Sen. Raphael Warnock. (Democrats note that Warnock, the church's senior pastor, doesn't always allow visiting politicians to speak at this church. Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg didn't speak when he visited in March.) Met with the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s daughter at the King Center in Atlanta to talk about data centers and voting rights. Visited Morehouse School of Medicine, also in Atlanta, to discuss Black maternal health. Rolled out several endorsements in races across the country. This week, Ocasio-Cortez will travel to Missoula, Mont., to campaign for congressional candidate Sam Forstag, a smokejumper and union leader who spoke at a rally with AOC and Sanders last year. AOC also has raised eyebrows by attending meetings with Democratic Party powerbrokers. … A person close to AOC told Axios that she is still genuinely undecided on whether to run for president. She's also considering a Senate bid in 2028. https://www.axios.com/2026/05/24/aoc-takes-more-steps-toward-2028-run-for-president6 points

If this happens, I think AOC is smart enough to understand that she wouldn't win. But she'd be able to get more progressive talking points out there, which could force Dems to take more aggressive and leftist stances. And honestly, that's pretty smart.6 points
