In our conversation this morning from Palm Springs, Amanda Seyfried is trying to make something of the conflict between hegemonic power and individual sovereignty. Seyfried, a longtime participant in and face of the industrial fantasy complex, or utopia, that is Hollywood, has determined that modernity comes at the cost of deliberate, willful, personal choice. “We’re losing power all the time,” she asserts. “Like, all the time. We’re losing privacy, and we’re losing our autonomy. So many sacrifices that we’re making [today] are made unconsciously…but I think we still have the power to make waves for ourselves and for each other. We still do.” Full Story: https://www.flaunt.com/post/amanda-seyfried-baby-its-cold-inside-issue10 points

“I worked in their Chinese restaurant since I was 12.” I’m sorry, but “I’ve been singing jazz since I was 13” who? All hail Barbra and all hail the rise of Chinese soft power, decades in the making!8 points

"In an era of sanitised girlhood and curated celebrity overshares, McCurdy’s first book - I’m Glad My Mom Died, a warts and all recollection of life as a child-star and fraught familial dynamics - sold over three million copies, proving an appetite for a more honest depiction of our experiences. With her first novel, McCurdy leans in even harder - Half His Age is less interested in moralising the teacher-student relationship at the heart of the novel, and more concerned with cutting to the emotional truth of what it means to be a teenage girl." Well, I must say that I was very struck by the tone of yesterday's news story about Liza and Gaga's appearance at the Oscars. I was struck by the fact that Liza had used those words to refer to Gaga, not because either of them is a saint or an angel, but because they seemed particularly malicious. So I had no choice but to find out who the real author of these memoirs is, which is Michael Feinstein. The book is clear on this point: it's not Liza typing on her computer, it's an artificial construct created by Feinstein, an “old friend” of the artist. So far, so good. But who exactly is Michael Feinstein? Something smelled fishy, so I had no choice but to track down past news articles and publications in which this man had mentioned Gaga. And what did I find? To ABSOLUTELY NO ONE'S surprise, this man is an obsessive Gaga hater who has never missed an opportunity in the past to speak ill of her. Like any good OGH, there are times when he praises her (because, deep down, he admires her deeply) and others, mostly, when he simply talks ****: he has criticized her duets with Tony for sounding “synthetic,” referred to her jazz covers as a “stunt,” and even said that she is an Edith Piaf impersonator (?). Here, for example, is the post in which he celebrates Edith Piaf's birthday and shows how much he cares about Piaf by ending up talking about Gaga lol. https://www.facebook.com/MichaelFeinsteinOfficial/posts/birthday-legend-edith-piaf-1915-1963-arguably-one-of-the-most-recognizable-frenc/2337767559585811/6 points

I know but think it like a vaccine, Taylor tasted a little bit of Madonna's curse, her body developed antibodies. Now a full collab won't affect her at all. Madonna needs to come up with variants (no pun intended)6 points

I mean her current sound is heavily inspired by Taylor if you just listen to her new tracks.6 points

The "Madonna Curse" is an informal, mostly fan-driven internet theory suggesting that younger artists who collaborate with Madonna experience a downturn in their career momentum, personal controversy, or a failure to reach the next level of stardom shortly after the collaboration5 points

You know you're an MPG when Liza Minnelli's memoirist ends up making the news of her memoir about you Kudos to Gaga for surviving in the industry that has been trying to dismiss and belittle her since the beginning of her career. She truly is a pioneer of showing how to bounce back time and again, and she's still going strong even after so many people in position of some power or influence try to bring her down.4 points

When will people understand that all art is inspired and all art is subjective? Thank the lord this newer wave of pop stars and artists are trying to be a community and support each other. Edith Piaf was inspired by others. Madonna was inspired by others. Michael Jackson was inspired by others. We could play this game all day. With music. With film and television. With books. With paintings. Nothing is truly 100% original. Using writing Liza’s memoir to air out your salty opinions of Gaga is WILDLY more trashy than Gaga admitting to being inspired by/embodying those who came before her.4 points
