Seeing as my photographer won't arrive until the weekend, and I cannot distribute my debut single on streaming platforms until the cover artwork is ready, please enjoy this tiny snippet of the recording process. <321 points

Well, I must say that I was very struck by the tone of yesterday's news story about Liza and Gaga's appearance at the Oscars. I was struck by the fact that Liza had used those words to refer to Gaga, not because either of them is a saint or an angel, but because they seemed particularly malicious. So I had no choice but to find out who the real author of these memoirs is, which is Michael Feinstein. The book is clear on this point: it's not Liza typing on her computer, it's an artificial construct created by Feinstein, an “old friend” of the artist. So far, so good. But who exactly is Michael Feinstein? Something smelled fishy, so I had no choice but to track down past news articles and publications in which this man had mentioned Gaga. And what did I find? To ABSOLUTELY NO ONE'S surprise, this man is an obsessive Gaga hater who has never missed an opportunity in the past to speak ill of her. Like any good OGH, there are times when he praises her (because, deep down, he admires her deeply) and others, mostly, when he simply talks ****: he has criticized her duets with Tony for sounding “synthetic,” referred to her jazz covers as a “stunt,” and even said that she is an Edith Piaf impersonator (?). Here, for example, is the post in which he celebrates Edith Piaf's birthday and shows how much he cares about Piaf by ending up talking about Gaga lol. https://www.facebook.com/MichaelFeinsteinOfficial/posts/birthday-legend-edith-piaf-1915-1963-arguably-one-of-the-most-recognizable-frenc/2337767559585811/19 points

You know you're an MPG when Liza Minnelli's memoirist ends up making the news of her memoir about you Kudos to Gaga for surviving in the industry that has been trying to dismiss and belittle her since the beginning of her career. She truly is a pioneer of showing how to bounce back time and again, and she's still going strong even after so many people in position of some power or influence try to bring her down.13 points

Her face is giving TFM Like obviously it’s not exactly in 4k but the shape of her mouth??? Hello?? She looks like she’s wondering if the next single should be Alejandro or Dance In The Dark11 points

They’re still VERY active, and they actually posted about the Liza story just two hours ago Imagine spending 15 years of your life running a Gaga-hate Instagram account with 1,200 followers despite Gaga not even knowing who you are Edit: look at this9 points

I rewatched the clip in full. I wasn't there obviously but here's my read of it. Liza clearly was infirm (nobody would have discussed any kind of a chair at all otherwise) and muddled (she is visibly shook and mixes her words a lot and looks to Gaga for help at times in obvious panic/confusion). I doubt very very much that Gaga insisted on the wheelchair. I would speculate that's because of some garbled explanation that was given to Liza at the time as to why that had to happen. A director's chair wouldn't have made a blind bit of difference to her eye line - she muddled the words either because the situation was too much for her or she is genuinely more cognitively challenged now than she would like to admit. Gaga's "the public they love you" and "legends" is a bit on the patronising side, although she has to fill time with someone who was clearly flustered. She may also have thought Liza was more infirm than perhaps she is. It was well intentioned. The "I gotcha" hot mic was clearly not intended to be heard. It's unfair to suggest she was trying to play the hero. She was trying to calm a clearly flustered woman on stage on a live show. I think it's conceivable that an infirm woman with a great sense of self dignity was thrown into a spin at short notice before going on stage which may have made her seem more muddled than she otherwise would have been. Let's remember these events move quickly and that might have thrown an infirm woman paranoid about her public image even more. I've experience of folk with dementia and cognitive decline in older years and they can be extremely paranoid and defensive about their sense of independence and health and are sensitive to being belittled as the "old dear". It's not that uncommon.8 points

i don’t mean to sh*t on her renaissance but i’m just watching her 2012 superbowl halftime, those guests she had on: LMFAO, Nicki Minaj, M.I.A., and CeeLo Green either gone MAGA or disappeared8 points

Does it really matter? Even if Liza were right and Gaga behaved the way she describes, is it really that deep? I'm sure we all did similar things in our personal lives. Good intentions, bad way of expressing them. I'd even go further and say that playing the hero game is a common thing. Safe to say, though, that Gaga may took a few notes on how to handle these things in future and possible scenarios. Our girl is good! On the other hand, we've got to keep in mind that Liza was and still is struggling with serious health problems. She's probably frustrated on how everything turned out to be, mostly because it must be hard to face life is about to come to an end in such a delicate state. Please, don't be bitchy about her. We will all be Liza at some point8 points

You gotta love how this fanbase is collectively spiraling as soon as something remotely negative is being said about Gaga... That memoir might have been ghostwritten, but I assume this is based on conversations that were had with Liza and that she had final say on the published product. I think we're the ones being obsessed here. Let's not make this a bigger deal than it is and move on.7 points

I don't see any of this as some scathing tea or dig at Gaga's character. We know Gaga has a soft spot for older people: from the way she interacted with Tony, to her grandparents, to literally any of her icons and inspirations in the music industry. Maybe her help felt patronizing or infantilizing to Liza, which is 100% valid, but she meant no harm by anything she did. Call me delusional or a blindly loyal fan, but unless there is some hard evidence out there, I'll never believe Gaga doesn't have the best of intentions about everything she does. She genuinely seems like one of the most kind-hearted people in the industry, which is something others have said and verified too.7 points

I've seen my share of old people not accepting that their health is not that good anymore and getting irritated and frustrated when you have to force them to use these aids for their own good. Liza might be in a good enough condition to sit in a director's chair, but how hard is it to get her there in safe conditions, on a fast-paced live show?6 points

It seems like this was a poorly managed situation, both Liza and Gaga were probably stressed, and they both chose to be gracious and kind. Respect to them both for that. Liza is visibly embarrassed, struggling to hold her cards, says something along the lines of being unsure what to read, seems confused, and Gaga chose to step in. It seems that’s not what Liza wanted, but this is a live program, it’s not like Gaga can just be like ‘hey Liza, what’s going on, can you read this, how can I help you right now?’ She just moved the show along. Gaga is not perfect, and I absolutely choose to believe she’s neither a bad person nor that she was only kind in the moment for good PR.6 points

When I saw that moments ago, I laughed out loud, but after reading more of their posts, I kinda feel sad… And I don’t even mean this as way to make fun of them, but like, I genuinely feel sad for them. 15 years (or more?) spent on hating Lady Gaga on her every move? Like how do you get psychologically stuck in such a deplorable state?5 points

When will people understand that all art is inspired and all art is subjective? Thank the lord this newer wave of pop stars and artists are trying to be a community and support each other. Edith Piaf was inspired by others. Madonna was inspired by others. Michael Jackson was inspired by others. We could play this game all day. With music. With film and television. With books. With paintings. Nothing is truly 100% original. Using writing Liza’s memoir to air out your salty opinions of Gaga is WILDLY more trashy than Gaga admitting to being inspired by/embodying those who came before her.5 points

Researchers have detected toxic substances in 81 pairs of headphones and earbuds from major brands, including Bose, Panasonic, Samsung, and Sennheiser. The substances have been linked to cancer, neurodevelopmental problems, and feminization in males. Materials with other harmful effects were also detected in trace amounts. According to The Guardian, the TOX-Free Project tested 81 pairs of in-ear and over-ear headphones available from Shein, Temu, and retailers in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, and Austria. Of the samples tested, 98% contained bisphenol A and more than three-quarters contained its substitute, bisphenol S. Prior studies indicated that the synthetic chemicals, which are used to harden plastic, mimic the effect of estrogen in organisms, potentially leading to cancer, early onset of puberty in females, and feminization in males. Although the materials are solid, studies also suggest that they can penetrate the skin through sweat, especially during exercise. Although the study does not mention Apple products, such as AirPods, bisphenol appears on the Cupertino giant's list of regulated chemicals, indicating that the company is aware of the risk. The researchers also detected minor quantities of phthalates, which can reduce fertility, chlorinated paraffins, which can damage the kidneys, and potentially harmful brominated and organophosphate flame retardants. https://www.techspot.com/news/111380-harmful-chemicals-found-dozens-popular-headphones.html5 points

Also imagine if Liza didn’t get wheeled out and FELL on live television. Gaga would be devastated. If Gaga did express that she wanted Liza in the wheelchair, I have no doubt it was for Liza’s safety. It’s not Gaga’s responsibility to make sure Liza holds on tight to her arm and doesn’t fall as Gaga escorts her to a director’s chair.5 points

You cant do right for wrong. Gaga could've stood there that night like a spare part and she would've been criticised. No wonder she doesnt go to events anymore5 points

Clearly the Academy wanted the big walk on 'moment' of Liza coming on the stage which was why a wheelchair was used. If she's just randomly plonked on a directors chair off camera, you don't get that moment of 'arrival', even though I understand her frustration. From Gaga's perspective though, what did Liza expect her to do? Continue letting her struggle and fumbling over her words or help her out?? If that's Gaga being wheeled onto a stage at the Oscars in 40 years time making a mess up of her lines, I'd hope whoever she's with still lauds her like she did and helps her out graciously rather than leave her struggling. Liza is probably just embarrassed by it all and it depends how you read into it as to whether or not she is shading Gaga. The Billboard article reads it more favourable towards her: https://www.billboard.com/music/music-news/liza-minnelli-explains-lady-gaga-moment-2022-oscars-memoir-1236183730/5 points

There are worse things. The reality is that the fact a computer can do this is amazing and unbelievable in many ways. I think there's nothing wrong with the animation itself. It's well-made, coherent, has a distinct style, and tells a story with a beginning, middle, and end. One could say a lot about the overuse of these kinds of tools for easy engagement, but in and of itself (even if many don't like it right now) it's the future, and it's only going to get better and better. It's no longer 'slop' I think. It's a paradigm shift in art and video, much like digital cameras, 3D animation/VFX, sound, or color once were. With every one of those changes, many critics spoke out about the "loss of humanity" (which is something abstract) but even so, "humanity" (whatever that means) has always survived, and society kept moving forward. I suspect something similar will happen in a few years time, and that 5 or 10 years from now, this will no longer be referred to as slop. What I can say now, for example, is that I would've absolutely loved to have access to these kinds of tools as a kid.5 points

Even though some people might have good intentions, the infantilization of older adults is a major issue, and I'm sorry to say that Gaga fell into this trend. We learn from these things, but older people shouldn't be treated as if they have no clue about anything, especially not in such a public setting5 points
