They've been hating on him for a while, tbh. I think it's a mix of the fanbase not being used to her love interest being so involved in her life (which is a green flag, IMO). And a mix of people having the opinion that he is controlling her because he's so involved. It's really none of our business in the end. There's no way for us to know their relationship dynamic based on what little is shared with us. I think Gaga has been through enough relationships/engagements to be able to hold her own.

I mean, he's quite literally a venture capitalist...so yes...we do know he's a capitalist. But I frankly don't think that's a valid enough reason to dislike him. People are projecting and think that he's controlling because he's been so involved in MAYHEM and the era's roll-out, which I think is stupid. 5 months later and I still stand by the fact that, sonically, MAYHEM is her best album. Not only that, but the roll-out for this era has been stellar. He's been nothing but a positive force in Gaga's life, and for some reason people don't like that.

Obviously I’m not gonna tell people to change how they feel about capitalism and how rich people have a hand in it, but there has been quite a bit of people that try to spin their relationship into being abusive, or trying to downplay her own decisions since she’s become more open about him. I mean, I’ve seen people dead serious say that he’s got her in a legal binding and he’s pulling the strings behind her every move and choice I honestly don’t know how you can look at her on stage every night she performs and think she’s anything but simultaneously healthy and happy for the first time in her career, and if Michael’s responsible for that, then good for her.

The narrative that he’s “controlling” is annoying more so because it feels disrespectful to Gaga. As if she’s the type of person to just roll over and let someone take control of her life. It’s disturbing that some fans don’t give her more credit than that.
