The Lady Gaga concert was paid for by the seaside city in an attempt to revitalise its economy. Fans reportedly travelled from all across the country to see the grandiose performance, which was expected to bring in more than $100m (£75m) to the local economy. Rio officials heralded the 2.1 million attendance as a triumph. However, careful analysis by the BBC Verify team and a crowd density expert reveal it is highly improbable the claims are accurate. Instead, it would require the entire length of the beach, rather than a section, to comfortably fit more than two million people. Despite the BBC's findings, city officials have maintained their claims. They have not however explained how their data was measured.

Update [October 16]: A man accused of breaking into a car and stealing hard drives containing unreleased Beyoncé music was indicted by a grand jury in Fulton County, Georgia, this week. Kelvin Evans faces charges of criminal trespass and entering a vehicle with intent to commit theft, according to the Oct. 13 indictment. The indictment states that Evans allegedly entered a 2024 Jeep Wagoneer, the rental property of Christopher Grant, a choreographer for Beyoncé, on July 8 "with the intent to commit theft." Evans allegedly broke one of the vehicle's windows in the process, according to the indictment. Police said they were able to track a laptop and AirPods Max allegedly stolen from the vehicle in the alleged incident by tracing the items' "pinging" and eventually located them. The report states that units were sent to canvas the area, and a "suspicious person stop" was conducted. Police said they later dusted the items and found "two very light" fingerprints, as well as camera footage from the area where the alleged incident took place. Police arrested Evans on Aug. 26. He was taken into custody by Hapeville Police Department and booked into the Fulton County Jail, according to the Atlanta Police Department. x ___________ [July 14] Beyoncé’s choreographer and one of her dancers said thieves broke into their SUV and stole numerous items, including jump drives containing unreleased music, footage plans for her show and past and future set lists. A spokesperson for Atlanta police said the break-in happened just after 8 p.m. July 8 inside a parking deck at Krog Street Market. Christopher Grant and Diandre Blue told police that they parked their rental black Jeep Wagoneer in the parking deck around 8:09 p.m. They discovered the trunk window had been damaged, and their two suitcases had been stolen when they returned to their SUV, according to an incident report obtained by Seiden. “Mr. Grant advised he was also carrying some personal sensitive information for the musician Beyoncé,” an officer wrote in the incident report. “He advised he was her choreographer and Mr. Diandre Blue was a dancer for her and that her hard drives for her upcoming show in Atlanta were stolen also.
