Shadow 6,639
Both had their dark parts... Bad Romance era: gothic fashion, Bad Romance video portrayed a symbolized s-x slave trade, she draped herself in fake blood, bit into hearts during Monster Ball videos, Manifesto of Little Monsters, gothic art pieces in her sets... Telephone era: in the video, she and Beyonce commit mass murder while killing off Bey's "boyfriend." Alejandro era: gothic performances, video gets introduced as she carried a heart while leading a funeral procession, religious symbolism, fountain of blood during Monster Ball performance of Alejandro. Born This Way era: video is shot in a mainly black background, she uses looks that portray horns, alien appearances. Judas era: falls in love with someone who betrayed her in real life, while symbolizing falling for the man who betrayed Jesus. She gets stoned to death at the end of the video. Edge of Glory era: performances with symbolized guillotines, spiders, webs about a song about the moment before death, inspired by her grandpa's death. You and I era: the video is Taylor basically torturing her to become some mermaid... Marry the Night era: a performance with her symbolized head chopped off... Song about the darkest times of her life when she was doing c-----e... Stand in the light, cast your shadow.
Miel 15,009
As Adam said, both have their pretty dark moments. I think TFM overall is darker, but individually BTW has some of Gaga's "darkest" moments. Is this becoming another "BTW is horrible" thread It´s always the album before that the new album stands upon, after TFM she could have released anything and people would eat it... BTW dissapointed, pretty big I would say, the only succesful singles were BTW and TEOG and half of the album hurts your ears... ARTPOP is a much better album and there were many factors that led to its unsuccess... BTW was one of them... you can´t protect the album no matter what, you have to look at it from an objective point of view ;) + when I said that it´s too dark, I meant that it´s too dark, nothing more, nothing less, you started opposing me with your response... I´m in no mood to argue with anyone, I respect your BTW loving oppinion (it´s not a bad album, but you can´t deny that it knocked her down), please respect mine, bye :( 3 points in and ready for more
lavenderblondee 3,695
TFM, no doubt. I feel like that promo for TF perfume really fit in with TFM era.
Scarlet Witch 1,646
Fashion wise: BTW Music wise: BTW Lyric and meaning wise: TFM (although some songs on BTW e.g. Bloody Mary, Electric Chapel are TFM dark)
albert 108
The ARTPOP era was pretty dark. She all the negativity in her life.
nomorescheisse 0
I think the Fame Monster was much darker in its message and lyrics. Also, you could see that she was sad deep down when writing/performing the Fame Monster. Born This Way was more positive; it had dark imagery but every song had some positivity to it. flo 2
I never considered BTW dark The album as well as the era always seemed positive to me.... Just cus she wore dark outfits doesn't mean it was dark lol

Popero22 8
Come on people: Born This Way mv, The edge of glory mv, JUDAS! Lyrical concept of Bloody Mary, Government Hooker, MTN's gothic church sound, the leather, heavy eye make up, I could go on Forever! Born This Way is officially Gaga's Darkest era thus far No doubt about it. The imagery, the sound, everything was beautifully DARKGA!
