Interpret "catch the beat" and maybe I'll believe it :P

maybe that's a reference to her needing to keep up with every thing or "every beat".  OR it can mean that as she's getting semen painted on her face, she feels like she's literally catching a "beat" (musically) cuz doing s-xual favours for a guy will help her make it in the music industry.  idk...

I'm not sure what the painting face is EXACTLY...could be semen... but the catch the beat part always seemed like she was holding something in front of a pig and telling the swine to try to catch her, keep up to her, get to her (Perez) but he can't because pigs are slow and fat.

I've always thought it meant cum shots. I didn't even think about the applause cover?

I thought of that the first time, then realized that it was a bit off for me.

I like to interpret it as a mask sort of metaphor. It's more than likely it doesn't mean much at all, but if it were to have a meaning, I'd connect it with masks. A lot of ARTPOP is about masks and unmasking, I think.

It basically means to be someone else and act like someone else. Like gaga said at SXSW that it better to be yourself instead of someone else. You're welcome.

I don't actually think that's reaching, it's an interesting way to look at it. I'd never considered that at all.

I personally think it's more to do with masking your face and putting on a facade. This makes sense with the 'catch the beat' phrase in that everyone involved in this is kind of 'painting their faces' with these 'professional masks' when it comes to making the music and doing the 'business', hence the 'catch the beat' phrase. Then the 'be a swine just for the weekend' represents the sinister "side-bit" where the paint comes off at certain intervals, so there's a vulnerability there too. The song almost ends chaotically after this part with the 'catch the beat' vocals coming back after the 'be a swine just for the weekend' which I think shows a 'blur' between this professional facade and sinister undertone as the 'catch the beat' becomes stuttered with the 'hiccup' background noise.

Ok it's getting late and I'm in a really a--lytical mood so idc if I'm thinking too much about this. :rip:

It's talking about the c-----e use. When you do a line you might just get some on you, making it look like you painted your face white. That's why "be a swine just for the weekend" immediately follows it.
