rivingtonreject 2
EDIT: I never said she said she was poor growing up. Also I'm not referring to when she moved to the LES on her own. I might get crap for this, but I mean this as a legitimate thing i'm curious about, I'm not attacking her, but rather wondering why? I bring this up because she grew up in Manhattan (already $$), specifically Pythian building (135 W 70), where a three bedroom (which she's stated she grew up in) starts at $1,780,000/yr. On top of that, her parents put two kids through Sacred Heart Academy, which starts pre-k at $24,500, then every year after (kindergarten - year 12) is $48,800. Sacred heart doesn't give financial aid, they just have a monthly payment plan. On top of that, she's mentioned in interviews she's attended stay away summer camp, sh'es been through multiple music programs (which are no where near free), has had paid piano and (prestigious) voice teachers for more than half her life, and Natali probably had likewise extracurricular. All these things cost a lot of money. I'm not saying this is a bad thing in any way, I'm just genuinely curious as to why she makes such a point to say she did not grow up wealthy when it's kind of obvious that she did? idgi? MillieBrown 0
i wish i had her kind of upbringing Upper middle class doesn't mean wealthy. what kind of comment is this? of course it's wealthy compared to most people.
Bye 3,947
Upper middle class doesn't mean wealthy. I don't have an opinion on this since I really have no idea, but if the OP is right about that rent, that's much more than upper middle class. More than 1M per year rent is upper class in my book... I don't have an opinion on this since I really have no idea, but if the OP is right about that rent, that's much more than upper middle class. More than 1M per year rent is upper class in my book...I don't think it's a rental and NY in the 80s was considerably cheaper.
melodichard 3,769
I don't recall Gaga ever saying she was poor
Guest
I think she meant that her parents weren't wealthy to begin with, but they worked their asses off to get to a place where they could do these things for her. They were fairly wealthy when Gaga was born, but they weren't always like that. I think she just meant her parents were very hard workers that always did what they could to provide for the family, and that's where her hard work comes from. tiffa 169
She refused her parent's assistance when she left home to live on the Lower East Side and worked three jobs. That's her story, so maybe that's what she means. Other than that, she mentioned that kids at her school were much more wealthier than her and she claims to have been teased about it.
