If she stayed the same..

If she kept some of her familiarity I think it would help her instead of changing her persona so frequently and making it difficult for people to keep up with her. She could have still held some of the same bigger aesthetics and sounds while changing the details and still evolving without changing her appeal so much. She doesn't need to always do a hard turn in order to evolve. It can be gradual without being boring and then it won't leave fans and the gp scrambling to figure out what is going on. I think she was in a funk between later BTW and then ARTPOP, and the hip injury on top of it probably sent her into a weird state, so she was unstable for a while. I think SXSW was her big closure with the past of this era, because since then she has gone back to being the Gaga we recognize much more clearly.

I think her themes and image are too inconsistent for the public in some cases though. Even within eras she will go back and forth between smaller characters she represents and it'd be nice to just see it through for a bit. She can accomplish it all, but she should pace herself. It's a problem a lot of passionate creative people have- whims are too easy. lol Speaking from experience.

She'd have a consistent image I guess, which can be a double-edged sword  I guess she's seen as quite the chameleon now, with her constant changes in a short time frame

I think if there were subtle changes then she'd maintain her popularity, because there would be the comfort that it's the Gaga they know and (hopefully) love, but there would still be the factor of freshness :flutter:

I agree! I think she could still accomplish her changes one at a time, so people don't think she is as all over the place. It's got some negative appeal, because people might think she's manufactured, but they're likely the same people who have and will always not like Gaga. I do think this goes back to her creative team she has now, or lack of a creative team. Nothing is as polished and planned as she was originally. SeashellGa was really the only one this era that seemed consistent. I think artrave will probably turn that around though. She seems like she is back on track and will keep it consistent.

I think the appeal of Katy Perry is that when she tweaks her details, image, and lyrics she only does so slightly and that can easily help with longevity, because her image is still a fun pop singer who likes pretty colors, cats, sweets, and boys. Like look at Prism compared to One of the Boys, her lyrics have shifted a lot in tone for her pop singles, but her image has been fairly consistent. I think a lot of it unfortunately also boils down to looks. Gaga was slightly more conventional back in 2008-2010. Then she went on a body image tirade, which I think she could have done a lot more with, but it was just a phase that she went through. I think she's back to being prettyGa, as seen in the GUY video. I think she likes to be pretty and feels better about herself when she is dolled up, but wants to change the way people look at "pretty" and went a little overboard. She has done interviews about this since TF, so it's something that will have to be gradual. The Gp doesn't like something new thrust upon them without a gradual adjustment.

I meant ''all the time''. Now that I'm thinking about it it should have been ''.......... never look like aliens''. Even tho Rihanna sometimes looks like she is giving us a visit from Uranus or Mars  :toofunny:

I would love it. She is a mess now. But stanning for her is fun unlike stanning for Kylie/Lana. Although their music do I like better.

I don't believe the fashion of earlier eras would have hurt her or helped her for the current one.  It has and always will be about the music.  Yes, I do feel that the mainstream expects and enjoys the same type of music time and time again from certain artists they have grown accustomed to.

I can appreciate Gaga, like everyone here, and how most of her songs are something she believes in and enjoys personally, but we can't expect the mainstream to try to relate.

I have many bands I enjoy to the hilt and I'll be damned if I can tell you what many (if any!) were wearing during a certain song, in concert, in a video, or while walking down the street to buy a cappuccino.  These bands I enjoy are only due to the music and message.  A good message is the sounding board of any inspiring entertainer and good music is the platform in which to get the message through.  The clothes are just a fun side distraction.

It's like in real estate:  Location, location, location!  With Gaga it's music, music, music - in the mainstream's eyes, not the fashion and looks.

Do not do to others what angers you if done to you by others. -Socrates

The music doesn't know if it wants to be commercial or not, the fashion doesn't know what theme she wants and it's changing more erratically than ever. She easily has the ability and drive to get back up, but she has to decide if she even wants that. I think she's on the right track to figuring it out, we'll just have to see.

Hmm, interesting. Some have written that her image it's really confusing this era, that she changes all the time. I've noticed it too ofc but didn't think that much about it. But when I read that it made me realize that this can be the reason for her making those shifts all the time. I know (I can be wrong) that the 6th album is gonna be the defining of the career. That's gonna be the turning point (or not?). She needs to go thru this era, and keep doing what she wants to do in order to get into this new phase of creative process, and album concept for the next time. If she want's to become a musical legend, she's gonna need to conquer the GP back to her and make herself an army with them.

Gaga's look is no longer selling albums. She was a strange, new enigma that people were interested in. The market is now saturated with other "Gagas", so she is no longer the unique/new sensation. Dressing "normal" won't change that either, instead she will look like it was all a stunt. She just do what she has been doing, and make good music.

They don't seem to get bored of Katy tho

this tbh...I heard Birthday by Katy Perry on the radio today and it sounded exactly like California Gurls and all the host on the radio station did was talk about how great the song is.

I think they will at some point.

No hate or anything. I like Katy.

it seems like she became less popular when she broke the superhuman vibe she once had and became human to get close to her fans. she gave up the facade to get a deeper bond with her fans, and while that made many of us grow closer to her, it pushed others away making them say she "lost herself." I always hear ppl say that n it annoys me bc they liked a less real version of her and if opening up is losing yourself then we live in a ****ed world lol

Another term I hear a lot is "she ruined herself." -- "I liked Lady Gaga, but she ruined herself."

It pisses me off too. In many people's eyes, Gaga became subpar when she started making music about loving yourself or started to wear outfits that made bigger statements. They choose to believe it's fake or try-hard, when in reality it probably comes from a very genuine place.
