If she stayed the same..

Well, you said Gaga is one of the most popular persons on Earth, a statement that shows you care about that at least a little. If she was still doing small time shows at the Bitter End in New York, that would be enough too, right?

It wouldn't be enough for me because she is a pop star and not an indie artist. She can't end up there except if she really wants to. What I want for Gaga is to do what her heart tells her, where the music and her evolution needs her. When she steps back to please the public she will truly fail. The world is changing, its evolving. Everything on this wolrd that remains stable is constructed, from a building to a personality. Now Gaga is not as widely accepted as she was but now she is unique and she makes music history cause she leaves her own chapter on Pop music. There will be many Katy Perrys but only one Lady Gaga.

There is no guarantee, look at Avril Lavigne, or Owl City.

They stick to their sounds and not keeping popularity but to retain her old fan base.

With Gaga shakes things up,she make herself keep interesting.

Yes, there will be people over her for that but she also get new listeners to balance it with.

And I believe music is not the reason people stop listening to her.

Most people can't relate to the high fashion she is wearing, it's too unusual for them.

Well, what explains the radio slow to rocket her singles if the music isn't part of the problem?

Do your own research.

I think Gaga would be criticised if she'd stayed the same. Unless she became submissive to the music industry and let her image be moulded by the 'higher-ups'? Then I think she could've had the same type of success as many of her contemporaries...

Regardless of where she's been in terms of her music/aesthetic ect, there's always been something about her that makes people tick. Her music, art, personality and general 'aura' make people view her differently and hold her to a higher standard than other pop-stars,  and I think there would've been a 'disappointment' if she didn't evolve and change, probably more so than the 'disappointment' that some people feel towards her changes. I think the way she's evolved over the past six years has already begun to solidify her prominent place in pop culture history, and without that evolution she'd just be another pop star.

Perhaps radio takes her music not as relevant as it was in 2008-2009

Most radio only play popular music, or popular genres of the time.

Otherwise, they just antagonise her. In every era, there are always

big stars that made into this and ridiculed.

But why did it work for them and they're still going strong if that image was wore off? Who did they copy next?

Because their clothes and image was just empty for popularity with no message.

Gagas image and clothes are statements.

They did it because it was trendy. Do you see them doing it now?

blahblahblahhhh

What about her theatrics has gone down? Wasn't Roseland theatrical? Also, I remember people were saying during BTW that the gimmicks were getting in the way.

Remember all that talk, "she has become a parody of herself." Well, maybe she was trying to poke fun at herself for laughs, like a reaction to people saying she was so serious... This is art! Remember when she referred to herself as a jester, that people either took her too seriously or not serious enough?

Well, she herself is a very theatrical person, we all know that. But I feel like her sets range from uninspiring to non-existent. She is one of the rare performers who don't need gimmicks in order to keep the audience interested and entertained BUT those gimmicks defined her and set her apart. It showed how much effort and thought she put into every single performance which were extremely entertaining to watch. Now, we just have her jumping around the stage wearing bland outfits. Of course, her raw energy is out of this world, I love her when she is like that, but at the same time I just feel her performances got too same-y.

Roseland wasn't very theatrical, in a way she relied on her raw talent which is phenomenal, but she didn't upgrade her performances by adding new elements to them. Gimmicks and theatrics are only a bonus with her, a bonus that I fell in love with.

But the thing is - no matter what people say, she shouldn't have stopped doing the things that she loved. Who cares what people say? I agree that people are often alienated by her performances and behaviours, but that's just who she is. Or was, to be more precise.

I don't even know, I have so many mixed feelings about her at the moment, I still love her to death but it seems like she's lost her touch a bit, she doesn't keep things interesting anymore, she became rather predictable.

It's hard to say, even some fame monster choices were said to be the beginning of the end, see Alejandro MV. There's just no possible way Gaga could have kept her popularity at the level it was, it just wasn't feasible even if she kept repeating. But the thing is, she doesn't have to repeat that era to be popular again. Born This Way did a lot of damage. There's no doubt. And whether she wants to admit it or not, she took it hard. Going from major success to what seems like an instant drop will do things to you. And we saw that in ARTPOP with what seemed like her being on the defensive and having to constantly reaffirm that she for the music not the bling, as if the can't go together. To me, it seems somewhat evident that she's at the lull in her career where she doesn't know what she wants anymore. The music doesn't know if it wants to be commercial or not, the fashion doesn't know what theme she wants and it's changing more erratically than ever. She easily has the ability and drive to get back up, but she has to decide if she even wants that. I think she's on the right track to figuring it out, we'll just have to see.

Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust~

She might be more successful on the charts, but she would not be as respected of an artist as she is today. She would be in the exact same boat as Katy and Rihanna.

Also, I don't know if Gaga's "The Fame" schtick would hold up well long-term. In the beginning she came off as futuristic and mysterious, but after five years of that same act, it might appear cheesy and superficial. Gaga was always a dynamo, ready to change, transform, and grow. Katy and Riri have much more generic brands, which people get sick of less quickly.

What sets exactly are are you talking about?

For Roseland she wanted to create a club atmosphere like her time on the lower east side, so she kept the sets and costumes simple. SXSW was also kept relatively simple because she wanted an authentic festival atmosphere. But for her last tour, her set was a freakin' castle! At the AMAs she recreated the Oval Office, on GMA she danced down the yellow brick road, then there was the giant set from SMAPXSMAP?. And have you seen the plans for the artRave stage? It looks like her coolest yet!

What more do you want from her?

Things are not black or white though, especially in music. You don't have to choose between Katy Perry and Beethoven. Gaga always mixed commercial music with other elements, this is her thing. All Gaga's albums are ARTPOP more or less because she always did that. She definitely didn't like the backlash she received but who would like it tbh? I think she will find the way agaij, success always return when you stay true to yourself.

If that were the case, why aren't people bored of Katy Perry, Rihanna, or Kesha?

don't shade Kesha :excuseme:

She'd have a consistent image I guess, which can be a double-edged sword  I guess she's seen as quite the chameleon now, with her constant changes in a short time frame

I think if there were subtle changes then she'd maintain her popularity, because there would be the comfort that it's the Gaga they know and (hopefully) love, but there would still be the factor of freshness :flutter:

Didn't mean to shade. I really do hear Kesha's songs on the radio a lot.

Do your own research.

They don't seem to get bored of Katy tho

If that were the case, why aren't people bored of Katy Perry, Rihanna, or Kesha?

because they are pretty all the time, and they aren't punk rock and wild and crazy.
