tokyodisko 0
I don't think it is the media's fault at all. I mean, a lot of it was lazy journalism and the need to sensationalize, because she is a prominent figure and it's their job to find click bait , but I don't think that was huge to anyone aside from stans. I think people genuinely got sick of her, even I get so tired of her persona sometimes, and that caused a lack of people being interested in her, especially when people were not generally impressed by ARTPOP- at least not to the standards that they came to expect from Gaga. Many think she tries too hard. That's always been said, but before she could talk and back it up. I also think having a new "It" girl may have had some slight impact, especially with Miley and Katy both having a more fun message and approach to their albums. People still like her older music, but her newer stuff just doesn't capture as many people. I think it is because of her lyrics. Half of ARTPOP was golden and the other was some of her absolute worst work. Long overdue rant. I just can't believe people still think Gaga is a helpless victim in all this. What do you guys think? Scarlet Witch 1,631
It's both tbh People jump on the hate bandwagon because it's easy to find fault from her as a result of BTW The others with no reason also join in
Adakam 2
Its a consequence that became a trend. but its not because of the music, this will sound bad but it will say it all: Its gay to like Lady Gaga
aaronyoji 2,054
i do think the media just loves to rag on her, but i dont think she's a helpless victim, she's had thicker skin in the past i dont see why now with this album she's acknowledging it ad-nauseaum and getting uber defensive over ARTPOP, an album that's not even that poignant with controversy or taking a stand, aside from aura and swine. One of my friends didn't even know ARTPOP was out. Yet he has Bangerz and Prism.
Guest
It's a major trend. I wouldn't say it's a consequence because that makes it sound like Gaga did something wrong prior to the album's release to cause people to hate her. If people got tired of her, that's not her fault; she's just doing her thing. And if people got tired of her and continued to down her after, it's a trend, not a consequence. No Angel 128
It's a trend, and will always be a trend, but Gaga may be to blame for half of it as well. It was the antics in the past and people grew tired of it. Liking Gaga in the past was a cool thing, now she's almost like a guilty-guilty-guilty pleasure. As awful as it sounds, she pushed the "gay thing" and all the other "bizarre" stuff onto people and some didn't like it. It's easy to attack her because of the things she does and wears. So it's a 50/50 thing here.
SEX MUFFIN 63
I think it's a bit of a trend. I totally agree though....I only listen to a few songs off ARTPOP now (Venus, Mary Jane Holland, Applause and Swine mostly). Starting to feel a little stale. Hopefully her next album takes of a bit better
Whispering 18,865
Partly media's fault. Partly the fallout from the BTW era. Partly a backlash for all the "gay talk"- started with the Alejandro video and meat dress. Partly the fact that Gaga won't be the pretty or cute fun little pop girl, or chubby plain girl next door, that the majority of people are comfortable with. They like their white pop girls in those boxes.* * These ARE NOT my views on Gaga, rather what many of the GP value in Pop music today.

Media loves to rag on any celebrities if they can get a negative headline. They just had an easy time with Gaga this past year. I think her attitude this era is just from all the negativity and creativity going into ARTPOP- the conditions in which it was made and such. I think she was really trying to be more radio friendly and it kind of shot her in the foot. :/ It's a major trend. I wouldn't say it's a consequence because that makes it sound like Gaga did something wrong prior to the album's release to cause people to hate her. If people got tired of her, that's not her fault; she's just doing her thing. And if people got tired of her and continued to down her after, it's a trend, not a consequence. Part of her thing is to be a pop star though. She set the standards and a lot of people don't think she met them. I'm sure she will again sometime, but even a lot of fans were kind of iffy about the music this era.
Emvee 8,365
Definite consequences of her decisions with Born This Way. Were they bad decisions? Not in my opinion, but to a majority they were, so none of us should be surprised with the state of her career now. It is what it is. Oh, but it's somewhat of a trend now. Her fall out with the GP really encouraged people who didn't like her in the first place to just go all in.
Redstreak 6,653
The funny thing about the try-hard label, is that a majority of the time she isn't. We've come to a time where people don't expect a lot of effort from many of today's top 40 selection. And when that happens, even the smallest hint of effort is seen as over doing it. Gaga isn't trying hard, people are just letting their musical expectations get lazy. Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust~

I would have put a 50/50, but too many people pick that when it's available. haha I do think that is part of it, but I also think she presented herself as a s-x symbol at first, in a very unique way and then kind of did a nose dive into the not-so-s-xy Gaga, so i really love when she gets dolled up and everything. Not because of the accessibility, but because I think she owned her s-xuality which was a stronger message to me. Definite consequences of her decisions with Born This Way. Were they bad decisions? Not in my opinion, but to a majority they were, so none of us should be surprised with the state of her career now. It is what it is. I don't think BTW was a bad choice either and I totally agree with this. She didn't do enough to balance her preaching/BTW message with the accessibility a pop star really needs. But she's young and will learn.
