tokyodisko 0
They do them for every artist around here, or rather pit them against another song, but usually ignore it if the requests are high enough. People just aren't requesting it. Gaga did too little too late with her transition from BTW's iffy success in the last third of the era to ARTPOP. And I'm not counting where she had hip surgery- the issue extends way beyond that.
VforVendetta 2,024
They do, but it isn't the only factor! Far from it! Otherwise, several of Demi's and JT's song wouldn't have made it to the top 10. Tegan and Sara never did make it above 100 on iTunes, but they made it to the top 15 on Pop stations. Pop stations pushed Gorilla and Young Girls way past their iTunes positions. We Can't Stop should have been a #1 hit for a few weeks, but radio station were not going to let that happen. Radio doesn't always play by the rules. There are hidden agendas and there is some "legal payola" involved. They have spinned songs that where out of the top 800 and radio claims to be an independent format. They would have played G.U.Y if they wanted, they just don't wanna give it a chance.
tokyodisko 0
Unconditionally wasn't though Yeah, but her team was smart and covered that mess up with Dark Horse really quickly. Gaga should have done that with DWUW, even if the video wasn't going to be ready for the 3rd single. Keeping the public's attention would have been crucial, even if it was just the song and not the video or Gaga herself.
Whispering 18,865
How many people do you know that actively request songs on radio? Little to none, I'm sure. It's because 99% of the people that request are fans, and radio is well aware of that. Basically true, but they want to get young fans who listen to Pop radio engaged and interested in their station. They figure if they can get you as a loyal listener early on, you are more likely to become a loyal listener. (for those who stay in the area) Radio stations want to have hits to their website and interest in their twitter pages. They can use those statistics to present to advertisers. It's all about the money, money, money! :)

Gaga fans have never encountered watching a single move slowly on the charts. Will it catch on? Eh...IDK, but radio is spinning it. It just isn't the way Gaga fans are used to. They've been spoiled and didn't even know it... until now. This is what it is like to watch a typical third single on the charts.

For some reason the didn't want to release ther video and the single was doomed.
Nemo 4,291
First of all, I have seen so many "pump it or dump it" and "hot or not" things for this song. These are actually an insult to Gaga. ... What radio is really doing is looking for an excuse not to play G.U.Y.Sadly, I agree with your interpretation. So, don't give them their excuse. Make sure we crush any poll like this (although maybe not as hard as this one).I remember them doing this with Kelly Clarkson's "Catch My Breath", and thinking, "Why are they trying to reject this song? It's great." But they went on to play the heck out of it, in the end.

OF ocurse many singles chart perfromances are very slow and I agree with this but GUY doesn't have an audience and you can see it with it's AI updates. It wasn't in their controlled, dosed way they wanted it to be implied within the song and video. If they decide to keep DWUW then they should have done it solo or with Xtina and done a quick video. Or moved on right away. The single run was ruined because of R.Kelly tbh. It probably wouldn't have lasted long. Maybe top five for a couple weeks if the video was good.
