Why is there criticism on chart obsession?

Yes but there's people who live Gaga ship whenever she flops. I hate that. And then they comeback later talking about charts and all the music not the bling ****.
I like when she slays, when she's #1, I'd help with requesting and gaining views on YT but it's not that important to me. I'll like her and her music if I like it, I don't care if the album is #1 or #34.

Chart success does not equal money in this day and age.

Touring is where Gaga and co cash in.

As long as the ticket sales are strong we don't need to worry.

I would rather her continue pushing towards making the courageous, distinctive music she has always made. Let her team worry about the finances, that's what they're paid to do. I just want to be blown away.

I don't get it. If it weren't for the fact that Gaga's old music was successful she wouldn't have been invited to perform at all those award shows (she wouldn't have even won most of them if it weren't for her chart success)

Chart success = money = performance budget = her being invited into interviews/shows

So all of you complaining about chart obsession need to shut up tbh because Gaga's career is fuelled by chart success. And isn't it funny back in 2009 when Gaga was slaughtering everyone that dissing Katy Perry was ok but now that Katy's bigger we shouldn't 'compare' them? It's a taste of our fanbases medicine. Gaga may say she doesn't care about beating Katy or having chart success but she internally does.

So accept the fact that there's nothing wrong with worrying about commercial success.

Your last two paragraphs pretty much sum up why people don't like people who obsess over charts. You guys compare to Katy Perry, you guys get touchy about everything (ex. "Everyone needs to shut up), and seem be able to read the inside of Gaga's brain and confirm that in fact she DOES care about the charts a lot.

Most of you are obsessive and comparative. Which is interestingly enough, not what Gaga's career is about. It's about pushing boundaries and expressing herself through her music, and yes, at a global platform, but that doesn't mean she's going to compromise her music.

So ya, your OP pretty much sums up why we dislike your type of people :awkney:

The most ironic thing is that your username is Millie Brown :rip: :rip:

I don't think anyone can speak on Gaga's behalf :duck:

I agree with you that Gaga needed the chart success to get to where she is, and she does need to maintain a certain level of chart success to retain that spot. However, I don't personally like the obsession that surround the charts. I get that some people find studying the charts interesting and that's fine, although I personally find it very boring, but there does come a point where I wonder whether or not people care more about the charts than they actually do about the quality of the music. I've seen people change their opinions on songs and whole albums because of where it sits in the charts and that's wrong imo. Where an album peaks on a chart shouldn't dictate you opinion on it. I want Gaga to do well and be successful because I believe she truly deserves it but sales are no longer a focal point for me. Listening to Gaga's music and enjoying the experience means a lot more to me than charts and sales do.

THIS! THIS! THIS!

It's not a problem to care about Gaga's commercial success. It's normal. But to freaking smash Gaga for not instantly hitting number #1 means you stan for success. Not for Gaga. And we all know charts are responsible for success but we shouldn't just be here when Gaga get's a number 1 hit or stop liking a single/album when it doesn't get that number 1. I think we should appretiate her music.

And if I recall you once made a thread bashing Gaga and you commented on one of my threads about chart obsession and you were basically defending it :rolling: so honestly if you don't stan for Gaga's music I suggest you just leave because Gaga isn't the same as she was in 2008/2009. Be here for music not for bling. :classy:

It is pretty unhealthy when you spend more time worrying about where Gaga is on the charts than actually enjoying her work (and your own life) which I see a lot of on here. It's kind of creepy.

People fear what they don't know, and they also are a bit hypocritical. During BTW's slayage, most would at least check the charts or browse that section because she was doing well. People tend to abandon ship when she's doing bad and become hypocritical though.

Gaga didn't become successful because people checked Billboard. She is successful for being a good cultural penetrator.

Don't bring money into the picture. Album/single sales aren't where money comes from. Just about everyone knows that.

Touring power doesn't have much to do with single success either. Take a look at the highest-grossing tours in history.

So, basically, it's a fact chart obsession is dumb.

OP, you need to voice your opinions more calmly, and don't tell other people to shut up. Otherwise I agree with what you said how charts success means more budget, more performances, more high budget videos, tours, etc... I also agree that no one should obsess, it's not our problem.

This. The op needs to calm down... This need to justify obsession by a pop star's past success like it directly affects them. Do you have stock in Interscope? Be happy when Gaga's successful, but why does her chart success mean so much to you? If you wish to have a heart attack over Gaga's chart position, that is your prerogative. Let everyone else be to enjoy their entertainment, the whole point of being entertained.

It's all the fan's insecurity, but thing is, no one thinks Rihanna's as good as the Beatles for having as many #1s.

Same with MJ and Katy.

Boring stuff.

Hold it, watch the flamebait. How do you know how everyone feels about Rihanna's quality of music?
