Why is there criticism on chart obsession?

I don't get it. If it weren't for the fact that Gaga's old music was successful she wouldn't have been invited to perform at all those award shows (she wouldn't have even won most of them if it weren't for her chart success)

Chart success = money = performance budget = her being invited into interviews/shows

So all of you complaining about chart obsession need to shut up tbh because Gaga's career is fuelled by chart success. And isn't it funny back in 2009 when Gaga was slaughtering everyone that dissing Katy Perry was ok but now that Katy's bigger we shouldn't 'compare' them? It's a taste of our fanbases medicine. Gaga may say she doesn't care about beating Katy or having chart success but she internally does.

So accept the fact that there's nothing wrong with worrying about commercial success.

There's a difference between caring about chart success and obsessing over it, whether Gaga's #1 or not it's an unhealthy obsession to have

I don't like that word. Passionate is what I call it and there's nothing with having extreme passion about something that ultimately is for the good of things for Gaga's career.

Thiiiiis

Tbh she's always going to be making great music regardless of budget

I guess the difference of whether or not if you care about charts is whether you care about the music or the bling more :emma:

This.

There are "fans" who are bashing her when she doesn't chart super good, instead of enjoying the music and that is not ok in my opinion.

Lose control. Let go and fall. Do you get the satisfaction?

Theres a difference, I honestly dont give a **** and I believe that when Gaga says she doesnt care about beating Katy that its true. She cares about beating herself. And if you have been mean to Katycats its sad

I think wanting her to do well is not the same as obsessing over charts.

It's also about priorities, yes she may have to change if she declines more sales wise (unless artrave slays ofc) but what is the alternative?

Do you guys really want gaga to change just for chart success? Do you think that would even work?

Also it could be worse, she can survive on these sales and they are still good. You can't expect her to be on top forever and you can't expect her to sell like she did in tf/tfm era.

OP, you need to voice your opinions more calmly, and don't tell other people to shut up. Otherwise I agree with what you said how charts success means more budget, more performances, more high budget videos, tours, etc... I also agree that no one should obsess, it's not our problem.

Because chart position isn't indicative of music quality and shouldn't affect your opinion on the artists you like and the other artists with more chart power /end

Of course we all want her to be successful but complaining over chart success won't make the records sell faster.

As long as this discussion stays in the charts area I am fine with it. I just never visit that part of GGD.

I agree with you that Gaga needed the chart success to get to where she is, and she does need to maintain a certain level of chart success to retain that spot. However, I don't personally like the obsession that surround the charts. I get that some people find studying the charts interesting and that's fine, although I personally find it very boring, but there does come a point where I wonder whether or not people care more about the charts than they actually do about the quality of the music. I've seen people change their opinions on songs and whole albums because of where it sits in the charts and that's wrong imo. Where an album peaks on a chart shouldn't dictate your opinion on it. I want Gaga to do well and be successful because I believe she truly deserves it but sales are no longer a focal point for me. Listening to Gaga's music and enjoying the experience means a lot more to me than charts and sales do.

Chart success does not equal money in this day and age.

Touring is where Gaga and co cash in.

As long as the ticket sales are strong we don't need to worry.

its because peoples opinions seem to change when the charts are brought into it.

No one cares that people watch the charts and want gaga to do well, i want gaga to be successful as well, but if she isnt im not gonna have a tantrum and complain about it 24/7. Its when they dismiss her work because 'the GP wont like it' thats when it gets annoying.

When you watch a performance of hers or a video and the first thing you can comment about it is 'well the there goes the GP' or 'straight guys will hate this omg there goes a chunk of sales' thats when obsessing over the charts gets irritating.
