All debut singles have a certain amount of legal payola behind them, this much is true. Still, Applause stayed in the top 5 on iTunes for months. It MORE than earned it's spot. The fact remains that a single sent to radio with an adds date can't be compared to a promo single. One has nothing to do with the other. Exactly. DOPE had zero airplay and wasn't going to get airplay. It was a pre-album promo single, and managed to get into the Top 10 on Billboard due to Billboard's bad way of calculating the charts. It was not near being one of the 10 most actually popular songs that week, but it happened. THIWD is a post-album single pushed by airplay, a video and a lyric video. The airplay it gets is way too high for the amount of sales it gets, especially after Birthday was such a disappointing single. You'd think they'd learn from past mistakes. But I cannot imagine her not releasing the lead single by next week at the earliest. She also has an interview on the 19th w/ GMA. And then the performance at the VMAs on the 24th. Her televised appearances lined up just hint the new single should be up really soon.
