aaronyoji 2,054
disagree on the first part, totally agree on the second part. well put together a--lysis tbh. i feel like the first part isn't what's been necessarily been wrong about this album cycle, she doesn't always offer herself up as the canvas to others, but more so her own thoughts and those that inspire her. theres been moments such as the inventions at artrave, the main photoshoot by I&V, the fiberoptic wig, etc that have served as great strong direction that i wish she would put to better use. i'd rather people like marina, jeff, robert, inez+vinoodh, the people she trusts in her creative team, to project ideas onto her as opposed to the mainstream or commercialism. its the second part i agree with, mainly because its so unlike her, not on an aesthetic level as some fans want to suggest, but on a personality level, shes never been so adamant about acknowledging ridicule and criticism and im sick of it. just make great work, stop trying to police the internet. if she where taking a public stand on real issues that ****ing mattered, like her feud with russia, jakarta, lgbt rights, etc. and it inspired great music, that'd be totally different and i would ultimately support it. but complaining about the internet is trivial, and the internet should stay free and not policed. also in relation to the second part, i feel like its resulted in a very apologetic persona and music. shes overtly defensive about an album that hasnt really caused any real waves or made as much an impact as born this way. i find ARTPOP in comparison to be inconsequential. lastly, and i might make my own thread regarding this, i feel like what we got on november 11th was more so the potential of ARTPOP, and not necessarily the final product. we got the seeds that need to grow, and pursued further. VforVendetta 2,024
The change in image and sound it not the problem. It's the level of outside interference from critics, fans, and collaborators that separates ARTPOP from TF, TFM, and BTW. Yes, I understand. I personally love the whole idea. I was very dissapointed with the critics but I'm not gonna give them anymore attention. I also see that difference but I really loved that Gaga decided to make a change and I'd love to see a change again for the next era. Noone can like everything someone does, especially if he/she has such a complicated and complex personanlity and career as Lady Gaga.
Whispering 18,865
This is the first time I've said any of this, and I haven't seen any of this articulated in this way on the forum before. I understand most people won't take the time to come up with an actual response to my thoughts, but hopefully some will and we can have some kind of actual discussion. This is all been discussed before, in this same way, in every other way possible, We've had this same discussion in many, many threads over the past few months. At this point, all this is doing is complaining about the same things over and over and over and... Seriously, most of these things happened months ago. Why keep beating a dead horse? What's the purpose?
migamiga 12,101
I agree with the part about her responding to criticism. I feel like it was overdone this era and ended up making her seem weak when she use to be so fearless and strong and unbothered by those things. However, I see her being a canvas as being a vehicle for other lesser known artists and shining the light onto them. It's not about other people sculpting her. It's about her saying "hey, I made it believing in my artistry and you can too" and being Lady Gaga, a worldwide superstar, she can help these artists infiltrate culture in a way they wouldn't have without her help. How many monsters would have known about Jeff Koons, Marina Ambromovich, Millie Brown, Robert Wilson, etc without Gaga's impact?
DrewStevens 5,249
I have to agree you in some parts but in others not so much. ARTPOP is supposedly meant to be an artistic collaboration. It means that other people are going to put their vision on her work but she is going to be involved. When she says that the pop star is the canvas, I believe it means that her image as a pop star is going to be the canvas, not herself in every sense. The message of Born This Way was about being yourself ignoring what the world thinks about you. The message wasn't "do it by yourself" since she said many times in the BTW era that we should help each other in our personal fights. "Would you actually want to sculpt her yourself? I definitely would not." I think that we all sculpt Gaga with every compliment and every complaint. When a fan says that she should be more Fame Gaga to attract the GP, he/she is trying to sculpt Gaga, or when a fan complains about her having vomit all over her body. To be honest I think she used the critics to get some attention for DWUW. Maybe she just wanted to have attention from the media to sell the song. It was little bit fake and selfish. But it's good to be selfish.

Of course people have been discussing the album since it was released on here, but this is the first time I've even began to discuss my actual feelings about the album. It takes a while to process and digest a whole Gaga album.
Guest
My only problem with ARTPOP is the singles I cant believe we will never see venus & ARTPOP music video.. and G.U.Y is one of her worst songs why is it a single?

I was talking about her taking the reigns of everything. The album cover, the music videos, writing and production. She had a "do it yourself" attitude about these things. Tropico 4,145
The first part is so far off and inaccurate like I don't even care. But I get what you're saying with the second part. I see your point. But I just disagree. Maybe to stick to being a fan instead of life coach or manager or what ever the hell it is your trying to be because it's useless okay? :later: ♢ Social Justice Enthusiast ♢

The album cover, the music videos, writing and production. She had a "Do It Yourself" attitude about these things. Well she didn't made everything in that era. -In BTW she didn't produced any track. In ARTPOP she produced Venus. -In BTW she directed 2 of 5 videos by herself. In ARTPOP she directed 1 of 3.
Daxclamation 7
the ARTPOP era is the biggest mess. and there's been so much disappointment. i hate the whole "NO WEED ON ARTPOP", then the whole thing is like DRUGS SEX ALCOHOL. Maybe it all goes over my head, but in my opinion this album is the least artistic of all her albums, and it doesn't even deserve the title ARTPOP. I don't know what's going on. But. Hey. I'm not telling her what to do. My whole point is that I don't want anyone to influence her work. I don't appreciate your attitude. This is why I tend to keep my thoughts on ARTPOP to myself, because people take it as me wanting to control her when it's the exact opposite situation. Tokyo Rose 1,475
You don't get it at all. I don't like people like you at all. I would love for you to leave the fanbase please. :D Sorry you feel that way. Me liking her as a person won't change based on my feelings about one particular album. So I'm still a huge fan of Gaga whether you like me or not. But I'm not a fan of ARTPOP
