HausOfGuy 10
I know that this quote is old and that she was only defending herself against detractors who said her music and shows were too gay, like there's something wrong with anything gay, but I wish she wouldn't put labels on her music like that, this is the reason why so many people in the GP assume that you have to be gay to be a Lady Gaga fan. As a 32 year old straight female, I realize I'm the minority in this fanbase and I'm okay with that, but by saying that her music is gay, she does kind of alienate certain fans. Music shouldn't be just for gays or straight people, and while I applaud Gaga for her LGBT rights activism, she should acknowledge the fact that she has fans outside of the LGBT community and that she's making it hard for straight fans to relate to her music and message. she chooses her audience, what if she doesn't give a **** about pleasing the fans who are outside of the LGBT community (which imo is not the case)? she has the right to say and do whatever she wants. And i do get where you're coming from but gaga started off as a gay icon (the gays helped her to get where she is today) and i think she's just proud of it/honors her gay fans... Theres nothing wrong with being grateful, if her straight fans feel excluded, thats their problem, and as harsh as this sounds, they are a fan of hers because they want to and i don't think its fair for her to stop being the gay icon that she is/has been for years because some people are feeling "excluded" what about us, the people from the LGBT community, who are excluded by most people on most things in a daily basis? its nice to have a person that makes you feel like you belong and makes you feel proud of who you are, and that person is gaga
grenziel 538
You actually didn't get the whole point of this statement. Please take time to comprehend it, thanks! Some of them want to abuse you, some of them want be abused.
JEANBO 364
It's funny how at the begining of ARTPOP era she was all like: "I'm doing stuff out of the box, I don't want to border my creativity and music..." and then she basicly labels her music as "gay" and does completly oposite. Yes, I know she said that long before, but still, it kinda bothers me.

ItsTommyBitch 12,640
Son of a... i had typed something before. Basically This is a great statement, If you are afraid of being labeled as gay then the problem lies with you. Like what ever damn music you want and u don't have to defend anything. And realize there's nothing wrong with being thought of as gay--being gay is not bad. Its not some plague or instant death curse if someone calls you gay or asks if you are. Personal insecurities are not Gaga's problems when it comes to fanbases. If people dont like how "gay" (like visually and audibly etc etc) her music and look is, thats their problem. GP can remain pressed Good Night. 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから
Ambrosia 3,775
Well, I'd have to see the whole quote in context and what the situation was. I never heard this before and I don't know when it was and why it was said. But I can tell you with all certainty, that homos-xual individuals are certainly not the only group that has ever been alienated or stereotyped or mistreated. And this quote, no matter how it was meant or how it can be interpreted, has already created conflict just by it's very nature, which saddens me. Music is a haven for me, free of all boundaries - and I never thought about it being gay or straight. It just is. Do not do to others what angers you if done to you by others. -Socrates

codymonster 8,584
This was during a time when she was new and getting lots of flack for being gay oriented and people wanted her to be "less gay" to be more marketable. She was basically standing up for gay people and saying that she can be a superstar and still incorporate gay culture. This was such a huge thing for her to say, and is beautiful, considering she was saying this during the rise to fame, that she would never abandon the gays, even though it could have been potentially detrimental to her career. gardenpanty 0
this.. i imagine it most be worse for the male straight fans.. i agree. it's a bit annoying for me but for straight males it's probably 10 times worse :smh:
Emvee 8,373
If it's gay, it's gay. Why do you feel alienated? There's no need to feel alienated. I don't feel alienated by "straight music." This actually really offends me. Lol Is it because you don't want it to be gay? Because you want it to cater to your little straight needs like everything else in the world? Her career is very gay-centric. That is the reality. If you're bothered by that, it must be because you're bothered by the idea of being part of something gay

Donatello 129
One word: context. You're bringing yourself on to the same level as the basic media that bashed the vomit without placing it in context (she was singing Swine). Secondly, that was 2009. As more years pass and acceptance grows, the struggle gays faced will be forgotten, equality will seem normal, and this quote will look offensive. Back to context, her quote was a response to a homophobic Kanye. She didn't make a formal statement saying 'my show is for gays only, straights go away'. She was just using the word gay 10000x to home in her message and to empower people that needed it.
