I think they'd have been more effective that way. I think that the GUY era didnt have mistakes at all, maybe except the release of the video that early. Judging by the comment sections it's mostly American casual fans watching it, I think Birthday has a chance to enter the Top 100 next week. Applause got around 5 or 6 million in the same amount of time, but then it again it was the lead single Could it enter the Top 100 if it is in the 300s of iTunes? It wouldn't surprise me if the Birthday lyric video ended up having the same amount of US-based first-week streams as the G.U.Y. video, and that while Gaga has a big fanbase (not that big anymore in the US though ) and Katy doesn't have people watching the video 300 times a day or aiming for VEVO records. A video would have pushed it top 10 and Gypsy could have kept the momentum going. There just isn't any excitement over Gaga outside her fan base. I am happy that she did the GUY video, i think it worked in terms of getting her fan base buying tickets to the concerts. It's all about the tour now. Katy's unlikely to do international promo or promo at all in the next month, her tour is starting 7 May in the UK.
