Shadow 6,625
It's totally her choice, and I respect that (if that wasn't clear from my initial post). I don't think third wave feminism supports the idea that a man can be "in charge" if that's what you want? The man being in charge is kind of the opposite of "sharing the power." Anyways, it's not as though she needs to uphold the tenets of feminism 24/7 haha. She should do what works for her. I just find it interesting as part of a trend. Didn't she say Swine was about rape right before the SXSW show? I thought I remember her saying "this song is about rape" and in another interview saying swine was about bad things that happened to her. I think what she means is that she is responsible for her personal brand and corporation, directing many facets of her career. Maybe when she goes home, she just wants to relax like most people do when they come home from work. Do your own research.
boniva4lyfe 0
When did she ever state she was raped? Answer that question with reciepts please. Otherwise shut up. Here's Rolling Stone on her introducing Swine as a song about "rape and rage" http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/lady-gaga-stages-dramatic-performance-art-spectacle-at-sxsw-20140314#ixzz2x14BPAoi I think what she means is that she is responsible for her personal brand and corporation, directing many facets of her career. Maybe when she goes home, she just wants to relax like most people do when they come home from work. Yeah, I'm probably just putting too much thought into her statement. haha. I adore Gaga, but she has a habit of not being entirely clear when she says things
Mast 980
Isn't she coming from 3rd generation feminism? Maybe it's her choice as a feminist to do what she wants, trusts who she wants, and let a man be in control at home. I doubt he has any say over her career, her life beyond that. Isn't equality just that, sharing the power so both in the relationship are free to be themselves and individuals partnering in a bond? Sadly, she doesn't seem to know what third-wave feminism is. She always calls herself a new age feminist and then says she has no problem being submissive, but that's not what 3rd-wavefeminism is about. 3rd wave is about acknowledging that women can be s-xual in the way that men are, and s-xuality can become empowering. That is not to say that the media should keep using women as objects, but that it is okay for women to want to look s-xy. She was going on the right track until, on G.U.Y, she wrote "our s-xes tell us no lies"
JazzGa 14,620
Ooooh a thread about a social justice issue? My old cat is a tough man, but i cant deny the way he bites my hand and he stabs me, he grabs me by my heart <
DrewStevens 5,249
It's not that. It's the fact that she reinforces gender roles in her music and videos. "our s-xes tell us no lies" glad to know she thinks women should be submissive You need to read it again because that's now what she is saying. She said that women should not tell men what to do, not to do what men say.
Fusel 1,109
I am not asking you to look them up, because I know their is no interviews that she said such a thing. If their was it would be well known. You did the statement but have nothing to back it up. You know nothing about Gaga so stop acting like you do. And looking up the interviews is such a low pereference to you it shows how low your opinion is. I wasn't even the guy you quoted, I was just trying to help by clearing up what this was probably all about, I was not even giving my own opinion on it, stop being such a rude b---h tbh

Rae 86
It's totally her choice, and I respect that (if that wasn't clear from my initial post). But I don't think third wave feminism supports the idea that a man can be "in charge" if that's what you want, really. The man being in charge is kind of the opposite of "sharing the power." Women having choices isn't the same as subordination (and I don't really buy the idea of "choosing" to not have equality in your relationship). Anyways, it's not as though she needs to uphold the tenets of feminism 24/7 haha. She should do what works for her. I just find it interesting as part of a trend. Didn't she say Swine was about rape right before the SXSW show? I thought I remember her saying "this song is about rape" and in another interview saying swine was about bad things that happened to her. EDIT: She did, according to Rolling Stone http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/lady-gaga-stages-dramatic-performance-art-spectacle-at-sxsw-20140314#ixzz2x14BPAoi Does that mean she got raped. Nope. It is about a song. It could of if any about anybody. Don't be careless when talking about someone especially someone you do not not know personally. She was going on the right track until, on G.U.Y, she wrote "our s-xes tell us no lies" From the sounds of Guy, she sounds just as empowered from a submissive position, since that is s-xual in nature as well. Didn't you ever see her tied up? You could see in her eyes she was in control. You just described 3rd generation feminism and she's doing that, taking it a step further. She let's the man think he's in charge when she has it all along. Do your own research.

Born To Slay 10,996
I don't really care, but it's pretty annoying when she says how everybody is bad and she was raped or whatever and at the same time doesn't mind hanging out with most of the "bad" guys in the industry (same she claims to fight against) Anyway, it's her business, I respect myself. None of them were convicted tho, in America your innocent until proven guilty. If Gaga was unwilling to be their friend just because someone accused them of something never proven, then that would be unfair.

G.U.Y. is about s-x, gender, and the act of s-x. Until you really realize that G.U.Y. is about gender, s-x, and s-x, I don't really think you should be using it in a debate.
