MJHolland 12,725
While I'm completely sympathetic and compassionate towards the transgender community, I feel like this is getting greedy. And I don't really want to use that word because it feels wrong in this context, but really no other word fits. Lady Gaga is arguably the biggest star in the world who focuses so much time, energy, publicity, and money supporting the causes of all people who are different. When I read posts like this, I always get the impression that it's written with a "woe is me" attitude, when really your biggest advocate is trying to help you! But they aren't being specific enough??? C'mon. You are a part of a community that accepts you for who you are. The whole struggle of the LGBT community is that we just want to fit in and be accepted as a whole. Yet when we make progress, one specific subgroup isn't getting enough attention?! And yes, I do understand that she has a huge public spotlight on her which she can use to educate, but keep you're "boo-who I have it worse than them why aren't you focusing on me" attitude to a minimum because she spreads love equally to all! I found that last comment about comparing your struggle with others to be completely out of place and inappropriate. We don't make progress through mopping about who has it worse off, thats not constructive. Absolutely. She needs to stop with gay marriage and focus on actual issues that are negatively impacting the LGBTQA community. Like JFK said, she is only one person. With women like Laverne Cox and Janet Mock as well as countless other advocates, I think a lot of people who are Trans are being represented well. I'd like for her to dive into deeper issues that plague the LGBT community like discrimination/murders rather than marriage. That would be interesting, but give her time I suppose! Ugh, the ignorance. Firstly, marriage inequality is a huge issue facing most people in the lgbt community. It may seem like just a word, but with that word comes a whole new world of federal protections and befits to a family! Tax, health insurance, hospital rights, burial rights, the list goes on and on! Your post saying that it's not actually important is highly, highly offensive and uneducated (and thats the nice way of putting it). Secondly, gaga hasn't even focused on the marriage equality issue in major spotlight in a good year or two. Yet what she has done is create the Born This Way foundation to combat discrimination, bullying, and murders (aren't many in the US any more but...). So to say she has ditched those issues to hop onto marriage equality is beyond plain stupid.
Celina 118
She shouldn't be focusing on any specific part of her fanbase: rather, she should just consistenly address fans as simply fans. I'm straight and I fully support LGBT rights and have no issue with them, but she often leaves me cold with her constant gay preaching. Love is not specific to one gender or orientation; it transcends labels and works for everyone. So she should preach love to everyone, not just a certain orientation or two. She doesn't just preach love to a "certain orientation" though, where did you get that? She preaches love to everyone. When she talks about LGBT rights specifically, it isn't because she wants to exclude straight people. It's because she wants to fight for equality, and not just in this fanbase. If everyone IRL agreed with what you were saying about love, she wouldn't need to talk about the LGBT community at all... But there is prejudice, and she wants to address it. Doesn't mean she thinks less of anyone else.

nomorescheisse 0
I don't think that she necessarily should, because I don't know how Gaga would be an effective trans* advocate (she would be criticized SO HARD for "posing" as an activist, even worse than she is already for advocating for gay marriage) but any vehicle through which trans* info can be put in the mainstream would be great in my opinion. People are so ignorant of the trans* community, and it's not really their fault; there's just so little focus on them and the community is shoved underground by fear. SKANK 14,288
Amanda Lapore opened for her back in 2008, she made out with someone who I believe identifies as trans in the Telephone video, and most importantly she used the word transgender in a massive international hit pop song. There is no doubt that she has used her platform to shine a spot light on the trans community, and I'm sure she will continue to do so. I'd love for her to do a duet with Laura Jane Grace, Justin Vivian Bond, or Lucas Silveira.

GagaDragon 10
If she can raise more awareness about Trans people then power to her. Though one person can only do so much and i don't think we should expect her to do everything. She has her own life as well and her career is at an important stage in terms of how her future may pan out. One thing at a time i suppose, let's hope she can raise awareness for a lot of things in her lifetime.

Adakam 2
I dont think she has ever ruled them out tbh, she has given the whole LGBT community so much support that It hurt her career, making her a stereotype, so I really cant see how she ruled out anyone (straights dont have human rights issues so dont complain -_-) In my opinion, and with how the world is looking, I think she should turn her activism into war related stuff, id really, really love that, and I think she would be able to get a Pink Floyd's The Wall kind of impact
Bonquiqui 0
Not necessarily, I'd be glad if she did but she already has spoken a fair bit for a lot of LGBT issues. I think we as a trans-community can do better as to educate people about trans-issues in and outside of the LGBT community. There are quite a few advocates speaking up for us in the media these days so it's a good step in the right direction. Also I'd like to add that transs-xuality is not in fact a s-xuality, it's an expression of the gender that you feel you are psychologically.
mic 1,415
In my opinion she should give some attention to straights finally.

SLAVE 0
I'm trying my hardest not to be offensive, but I feel like you are confused. Transgenderism has nothing to do with s-xuality and as such a person experiencing it can have the same amount of s-xual feelings as another non-trans person, meaning that a trans person can be gay, straight, bis-xual, as-xual etc. regardless of their gender identity. In regards to Gaga, I'm sure there's lots of things she could do to benifit a number of different communities, but at the end of the day she is a pop singer and should focus on her career. If she wanted to be a representive for every under represented group out there then she would've become a professional activist or something.
