Quark 7,089
o<(+_+)>o I think that Gaga can easily have many #1 hits or at least top 5 hits if she wanted to. Gaga is talented and intellegent enough to not only write super catchy songs but also be aware of what the general public wants. The thing with Gaga is that she prefers to do what she wants. She prefers to challenge music listeners and herself with her voice, lyrics, productions, and performances. And she also prefers to please us fans who only want for Gaga to keep evolving as an artist. Finally, is not like she wants to completely deviate from success or the mainstream pop world. That is why she named her newest album ARTPOP after all. Gaga knows that in order for her art to be witnessed, she still needs that attention that she will only garner by trying to keep some radio and or mainstream friendliness. Gaga still likes and wants success, is just that if she is going to be succesful, she much rather take risks and be succesful on her own terms and not on the terms of the GP (Katy Perry anyone?). aaronyoji 2,054
okay, what you are saying is technically true, but in the end of the day, you can't formulate a hit. with ARTPOP, most of the songs are gaga doing everything right by the book, and yet people aren't eating it up as much. its not that gaga does or doesn't want easy hits, its that the market is completely fickle and flighty. has it occured to anyone that maybe gaga would have more commercial success this era if she didn't focus so much on doing what seems to be a sure success of a hit? Oscar 1,031
I agree with your OP but are you implying that ARTPOP is an album for #1's or an album to show her art/experimental side? Like I mean are you saying ARTPOP is to bring in the attention then she'll recieve act II or? I personally think ARTPOP is commercial. Maybe I'm immune to weird because I'm a weird person myself...Like I didn't hear BTW as weird like a lot of fans did here at first... I think ARTPOP sounds like a lot of the songs on the radio...unless you look at it's lyrical aspects...then it's very unique imo

Quark 7,089
Yes, I have made similar threads like this in the past. I just felt that it was convinient to make another one right now due to the fact that people are talking alot obout Gaga's success latetly. Again? Haven't you made similar threads in the past? Aciid 0
I kind of Disagree. If that were the case, choosing singles like Applause and Do What U Want wouldn't happen. They are directed to a commercial audience, and if Gypsy or Dope become singles its the same story. (Same thing happened in Born This Way, her experimental stuff was never released for the public). At the end of the day whether its Gaga, her management or her label, the singles aim for chart success and this is not a bad thing, commercial songs do not equal to bad songs. elijahfan 25,956
This is a bit too easy to view things like that, if you ask me... There is no magic formula to produce a #1 hit. It is a combination of many things, and no one can magically pull a #1 hit out of a hat, not even Katy Perry.
Brown Eyes 0
It's not easy for her at all. You need to actually be popular to get #1's (especially now that streaming is counted), and she has alienated both her old stans and the public who used to like her. It's very hard to win them back once that happens. If it was that easy for her to score #1's, TEOG would've been one (catchy, anthemic, super radio friendly, worthy of being #1) but because she became so unpopular it didn't. Had Katy sung it would've been an easy #1. It's sad really
