Britney and Madonna both released greatest hits compilations after their fourth studio album, and while it made sense for Madonna since she had to actually neglect legitimate hits and her single off of the collection ("Justify My Love") went to number one, Britney's ended up being just a collection of singles, which is what Gaga's would be. The only current pop star who needs to release a greatest hits compilation is Rihanna. Although give her another year or two and she could release a number-ones album. Even Kelly Clarkson agreed with this. She was originally offered to do Best Album after her 3rd album in 2007. She refused it. "Doing a greatest hits would be crazy. I am not 50. Artists who do one after three albums think their career is coming to an end."
