Well yeah Gaga usually does and it's unfair that she is the one labelled the copycat. Madge copied everyone in her day as well and yet everyone has now forgotten about that. She's been very clear this entire era that she wants to pave her own lane, but as you guys can see, she's been boxed in. I can not say she doesn't deserve some of the flack she's gotten because obviously she has drawn creatively from those before her. In her defense, some of the best art in the world draws from what those before created (not saying Bangerz is anywhere near the best artistic statement in the world). I think her Gaga comment comes from a point of "Hey! If you're gonna call me out for taking artistic inspiration, you need to call her (Gaga) out as well." Why this comment is kind of self-defeating though is because Gaga is PURPOSELY trying to show that she has drawn from those before her. The whole "Reverse-Warholian" theme is taking classical art and flipping it on its a** so that the artist (Gaga in this case) is the canvas. Miley is not trying to "reverse-Warhol", at least from what I've seen. Hopefully, the media allows her to go in her own lane so she stops trying to drag Gaga down with her. She's a Disney girl gone bad, that's her claim to fame right now and not much else. I remember in the Barbara Walters interview she claimed that her VMA performance had a purpose and when asked what that purpose was she said it was to get attention. That alone shows the stark distances between them. Miley isn't and I don't really see her becoming the cultural phenomenon that Gaga has been. But, if she plays her cards right, as a person who is or was apparently a Gaga fan, she may be able to steal Gaga's formula (since Gaga has studied other artists too, maybe even imitated them to a degree) a little bit when it comes to fame, or like some other pop girls have done, do the crazy avant garde thing, but I don't think she'll go far if she does. Right now I think she's just trying to find out who she is in this sea of other artists, and hopefully as she evolves she'll become something more unique and her own, not trying to be someone else.
