msquare91 1
I think the arguments people are having stem from the precarious position that Gaga has set herself in as both a commercial artist and as a symbolic friend/mother to her fans. As a commercial artist, is Gaga morally obligated to connect with her fans? No. Seen as a friend, is Gaga morally obligated to connect with her friends (fans)? Yes. One would be a ****ty friend if one stopped talking to one's friends for months at a time and would be breaking the moral conditions of friendship that have been set up in our society. Gaga has blended the line between the two positions rather well for a long time, but this current situation really shows how different the two positions are, and how they both demand different sets of expectations. Once and for all, we all simply need to watch the skype interview and the Oprah interview blackout segment to recall that Gaga is clearly not talking to her fans because she wants to reclaim the sense of creativity she had before she became a star, when she was living on her own in NYC. She wants to do this album for herself, not for the fans. So she's pretending that her fans and her stardom don't even exist, so she doesn't have to deal with those expectations. When she was alone in NYC, she didn't have 30 million people to tweet to, so she's not doing that now. So let's stop debating WHY she's behaving this way. We already know. Case closed. But the argument over what Gaga is or is not morally obligated to do for her fans is still open, depending on which position you think Gaga occupies -- commercial artist or friend. Personally, I think every artist is required to sacrifice something for their creativity, and I see that she has to sacrifice her friendship with the fans in order to pursue the higher priority of feeding her creativity and flying solo. I think it's a bargain that not only works well for her, but will work well for us in the end, as well, when we receive more interesting work from her. But in order to make this excruciating wait seem more bearable, I'm going to do my best to only check GGD once a day quickly for news, and if nothing has happened, I'll go on my merry way and pretend just as Gaga is pretending right now -- that she's in the same space she was in before she was ever famous. As if she had never become a star. So for the next couple months, I'm just going to pretend that Gaga isn't a part of my life, and when she comes back, it'll be as if I'm hearing her for the first time. GreenEyes 1,050
I just find it strange how she talked about in August and everything, like what others said expecting a fall release or something. When it seems like the album was not even close to being done idk, it's going to be good, and i can't wait. It is probably going to be the highlight of my most boring summer
Rainbowgynous 0
Am I the only one who completely trusts Gaga's talent for making awesome **** so much that I don't actually care WHAT she does as long as she's fully behind it AND JUST HURRIES THE FUQ UP! * * Which I say with all respect for the creative process and overall health of our Queen of course. exoskeleton123 6
How far in the album making process is she? I would love to believe that she's fully done with vocals, and is now just mixing and mastering the album, but I think she's still recording and writing...
