Karandr 150 Posted March 29, 2013 Share Posted March 29, 2013 (edited) but you should only be buying her albums because you like the music and going to see her concerts because you want to her perform.  as you said at first, she doesn't owe you anything, so it follows that she doesn't have to repay you with anything. she puts out a product and because you like it you buy it.  that's the transaction complete.  she doesn't owe you after the fact.  you've got the album you bought and the memories of the concert and she's got your money.  it doesn't make sense to say that she should make music to repay you for buying her previous music.  i'm going in circles here but that's because you suggested she should repay you just after saying she doesn't owe you.   she's not ignoring anyone.  since she doesn't owe anyone, she doesn't have to tweet.  yes, she's kept a rapport with her fans over twitter for years and when she goes quiet it's obvious people are going to get upset, but the thing is she hasn't done anything wrong by not tweeting.  it is her fault that people are upset by her silence because she should've known that such a communication as she's had in the past would only raise the expectations of unreasonable fans who take celebrity fan connections too seriously.   and i don't understand this "losing hope" business.  she's the artist, you're the fan.  you appreciate her work.  she isn't a conveyor belt.  when her next work comes out, enjoy it.  what is there to hope for?  be upset when she announces she's retiring, which he hasn't done yet, i think!? I hear you and I agree with you partially but I think I could/should have phrased some things better.  I certainly don't think she owes us anything, but when she builds up expectation (of continued reciprocation of activity on her half) and then goes off the radar, she has to know what to expect. Of course I buy her albums because I like her music, but also because I like her as a person and want to support her. There are a few artists whose albums I don't pay for because I don't like them as a person or things they've done/said.  At the end of the day, she makes a product, we exchange money for the product, and she ends up wealthier. That's pretty much the basis of capitalism Yes, we get a tangible "thing" out of the transaction, but she gets money -- maybe it's my skewed/cynical perspective, but the seller always ends up better off in a money-for-goods situation. When you add a quasi-personal connection into the mix, and make things emotional, the buyer-seller relationship becomes a bit more muddled, and the fans (buyers) expect not only continued music (product) but also continued emotional engagement from Gaga (seller). I hate to describe the fanbase in such surgical terms but they're accurate.  EDIT: forgot to conclude lol  To be honest I'm not beating myself up over this -- I'm going about my life as usual. That said, there are some less stable members of the fanbase, or younger fans who are much more emotionally invested. When she announced the tour cancellation I saw a kid on my twitter tl talking about how he was having a panic attack I just think this whole situation is a big mess. Emotions are running are high but Gags ain't helping by not tweeting. Things will be better once the album is out and we're all jamming to Burqa, but this has been quite an eye-opener. It was OK. Not something I would expect from Gaga. When I listen to it I get Katy Perry tease, But just like you said it may be a demo in the process. This would be something new, not only for her but for everyone! Everything sounds the same and there's no creative process to make it their own. Pop artist now think they can just release a single, then it dies, release single, that dies, and so on.
