Music aside, Gaga's more than capable of writing better lyrics than Telephone. :wtf: Pop fluff does not have to mean zero lyrical sophistication and color- though the two overwhelmingly correlate in today's Top 40. I'm just getting nervous watching Gaga tweet about oolong and ratchet and cannabis and high/die princesses. Please don't go all Natalia Kills on us with this corniness. :ohno:

i dont see anything wrong with Telephone lyrics

it was meant to be a fun song and tbh the lyrics was written well enough for a radio single.

Dont u guys think too much when dealing with lyrics?

in order to smash ww, gaga better write some easy-understand lyrics so to speak.

im from asia and i know that pretty well. Song with great metaphorical phrases and lyrics that hard to make sense are not favoured by GP. That's why songs like WHYB can smash hard becausw the lyrics were simple enough

I'm sure not every song on ARTPOP's gonna sound like Telephone lol...Remember she said there was a song like Princess Die on the album that's written better and she also said Princess Die was her worst written song so she's not going to use it. We're getting all worked up over nothing.

She can write simple-to-relate lyrics for her singles, and write some artistic (so to speak) lyrics with album tracks to please her fans

Telephone actually wasn't a number 1 hit. If so, Gaga would have 4 #1's, she has 3.

Telephone peaked at #3.

And many fans care about Gaga's artistry. We're fans, we should care. And if Gaga comes out with lyrics like "I'm in the club dancing like there's no tomorrow-oh-oh-oh", I'll definitely lose respect. That's cheap.

And no imo Telephone is her worst single, therefore I think it is not a great song, but that's all subjective.

Sorry for caring more about quality than hits

Number 1 in the UK :legend: :legend:

"stop calling, I left my head and my heart on the dance floor" are actually really good lyrics in terms of portraying emotion in a pop song. I always felt that part was near perfection.

Then there's the BPM and the fact that if you play it really loud and dance you will rave your feet off because that song is freakin' hyper.

Love those lyrics...

Plus, doesn't anyone think it's just a funny song? Lady Gaga is famous partly because she's funny, and not always in the adorable Mother Monster way she is 80% of the time these days. "Telephone" reaches almost scary levels of intensity circling exactly one topic, which is... not wanting to be bothered while she and Beyonce are dancing. THESE GIRLS WANT TO DANCE AND THEY ARE NOT GOING TO PICK UP THEIR PHONES TO TALK TO YOU. Come on, in a world of barely-concealed club/s-x metaphors, that's funny

The subject matter is unique in a way. Most pop songs about clubbing revolve around going out, seeing some guy with pants bulge and trying to get him to stick it in you. Gaga/Beyonce sang about the opposite subject. they don't want no dik.

Glad y'all put an end to the Telephone-shaming. That was getting annoying.

Telephone is not generic. I.e. what Rollercoaster just said.

But what's wrong with generic songs and lyrics? That's what I'm saying! Her easy-to-understand lyrics, and her generic pop songs are her biggest hits! And her best IMO. (Besides Bad Romance) Everyone complained that BTW "flopped" because of how it wasn't really fit for the GP and how it wasn't generic enough to be a huge hit. But then you wanna complain about how you don't want her new music to be generic because you don't like that style of music. But generic and easy to understand and easy to dance to, is what makes hits. I'm a super fan and all, but I also like what the GP likes.
