@Miel do you still watch?

I do not, but I've been thinking about giving 11 and 12 a chance, since 11 is apparently pretty good :-)

I prefer 11 over 12 but both feel like season 1 - 5. So far Season 13 feels even more so! I'm loving every minute of each episode, even the "fillers" have more thought put into them.

I know, right! I thought it was going to be a Monster of the Week episode, and it was but it was awesome! I loved seeing a friendly monster again. And instead of dragging the drama, they already sorted out the rift between Sam and Dean and between Dean and Jack.

Jack continues to surprise me! I'm glad Dean approves of him now. Hopefully that stalls any path down the dark side. It was so cute how Jack is scared shitless of Dean (the "he wants to kill me!" to Sam and the way he was looking at Dean in the therapy session haha), and how the risk of Sam getting shot was good enough to trigger his powers. Please please, Supernatural overlords, have Jack be the little Winchester brother for more than this season!

The Castiel scenes were surreal. I'm still not sure what that thing was or what was up with that hilarious accent. But I'm glad Cas is not giving up and wants to go back to the brothers. He'll be surprised seeing Jack for sure!

Now I'm praying to the gods that the writers can keep up this momentum. The writing is so much better this season. I mean, story-wise nothing big is happening yet each scene this season has me fully engaged.

This season I'm being constantly reminded why despite its flaws SPN is my favourite TV show!

You're a wiki editor? Wow and here I thought Sam Winchester was the bookish of the two.

I'm waiting for your thoughts on last night's fantastic episode!

To start off, I'm happy about the "therapy" session. I like how the fight between Sam and Dean was natural and not some forced angst crap. Dean has been steadily becoming unbearable this season so far and I'm glad that finally got turned waaay down. He was becoming what John was like to him (understandable from a psychological standpoint but I feel like Dean knows and could do better). And more importantly, I'm happy the writers decided to focus on Dean's lashing out with Mary Winchester--something really fundamental to both the boys, instead of Castiel, for a number of reasons. First, Mary was reintroduced to the boys only recently, and a big plot of last season was that Mary was a crappy mom. The finale even had Dean and Mary having their own scenes in culmination. So story-wise, it was a good choice. Second, raising up Sam's concerns about his relationship with Mary. This is underplayed, and when it comes to interacting with their parents, I always felt like Sam drew the short end of the straw--he didn't get to know Mary and he always clashed with John. Dean traveled back in time to meet the younger parents before Sam had that chance. And this might sound petty, but I'm happy they chose to leave out Castiel in the topic of that therapy, as it would cheapen Mary's role and her relationship with Sam, recycle the already many scenes where Dean has shown his concern for Castiel, and only serve to fan the shipping flames, which the writers have already been doing the past three episodes.

Dean appreciating Jack was cool. Jack is this new comer, and he wants to prove himself, but Dean was very dismissing of Jack until now. Which kinda sucks. Again, I don't like seeing Dean act whiny--I think he's bigger than that. He was always the one who connects to the kids and teens better than Sam did. Dean was always a big brother figure. He ihas made several sacrifices to people he loved. To see him rip apart this young man felt like a disservice to who Dean really is, and made me feel bad for Jack. I guess in a way, we as viewers were supposed to feel for Jack? Personally, I'd want to hang around the Winchesters (seeing as I can never be one), so to see Jack being turned away by Dean probably upsets me so, because I start thinking "What if that was me and the guy I look up to the most considers me as trash?"

Anyway. The Empty. Wow. Just wow. I love the way this was presented. To learn that there is an entity even older than Amara no longer fazes or confuses me. I know the writers will always find a way. At this point, I'm just really amused and jubilant that they aren't running out of excuses in coming up with another powerful entity, one that can potentially wipe the board if he has to. Misha's acting as the Empty was weird but amazing, and it really ramped up the intrigue on who or what the big bads of this season are, and if the Empty will play a major role in the plot sometime in the future. And to finally know where dead angels, demons and most likely monster souls dying in purgatory go is very, very satisfying.

The shifter who embraces humanity instead of her monster side in contrast to the monster who only wants suffering was a very nice new perspective. I mean we've seen monsters trying to avoid harming humans (Lenore, Benny, Amy Pond), but this one was a step further. She was actively helping humans. So I like that a lot, too.

Over all this is the strongest episode of the season so far and now I'm completely sold on whatever story they want to tell.

I think even the ratings have held steady because of the the show's quality this season.

I'm also surprised how a monster of the week episode ended up being the strongest episode. It's classic Supernatural. Totally wonderful. I agree with everything you said about Dean. The writing is strong, even though he was being annoying it was totally in character for him in this moment in time and the writers managed to tie it back to him behaving like John. I haven't expected intelligent writing like that in years!

I'm glad you also like the importance Mary was given throughout the episode. It made sense to talk about her instead of Castiel. And I also agree all the Castiel angst is merely fanning the Destiel flames. Talking about Mary and Jack's mum also tied the episode tightly in a motherly way. Speaking of Mary, I wonder what's going on in that other world.

I will wait happily for the next episode. May it keep up the quality of this season (it doesn't need to be better than each previous episode but I hope it doesn't take a downward spiral).

The funny part of you posting this, is I legit finished this episode less than thirty seconds ago and came to this thread to tell you how much I am liking this season (season 11). That’s an incredible coincidence. :duck:
