That depends on how much is used. If you use it in a very light setting, it makes the voice less edgy. Many people use it without others noticing.

yeah true but im certain this performance does not have autotune

People get auto-tune, re-verb, playback various other effects and even just something with a high production quality confused. It does annoy me that people immediately jump to auto-tune it's almost never used live by anyone anymore just like lip-syncing it's frowned upon these days.

It's true that gaga gets accused of this all the time though so her own fans saying it isn't helpful.

people hear a vocal affect and immediately assume auto tune.  I didn't hear the kinds of artifacts I usually do from a running auto tune.  With the way Gaga uses her voice a heavy auto tune would be obvious.  It's possible there is a very light auto tune but there are many other filters that may be used to "thicken" a voice, including compressors which are used on every single mic feed and at heavier settings can certainly sound like they put an "edge" or filter onto a voice.

The sound of autotune is very distinct, even if it's used lightly. I can hear it clearly, the artificial, almost robotic sound in her voice at some parts is VERY audible. I am not going to argue with you, though. I respect your opinion and don't want to get into a fight over something so insignificant :)

Then you don't know what auto-tune is. yes it makes a vocal sound robotic especially if allot is used but it's for automatic pitch altering. Other effects and filters can make a vocal sound robotic and Gaga's natural voice can be easily heard on this performance there is just either a filter or allot of echo/reverb over it.

But don't you hear that her voice sounds different from other performances? And I don't mean the echo effect.

I think it actually fell out of use because of it being so easy to detect. The last time I heard of it being used was one year when the Xfactor auto-tuned several of the auditions one year. It was immediately obvious that they had done that and was a bit of a scandal here in the uk.

Yes, I am watching the HD one. I still think she uses autotune, but not much. It doesn't change my feelings towards Gaga or her music. I personally just don't like the artificial sound.

I mean I really am crying over her DWUW performance. I mean her voice is just....I can't be the only one

I JUST NEED MORE THIS KIND OF MUSIC FROM HER. (I'm sorry but I'm really starting to feel that she's wasting her talent a bit with electronic pop music...we all love this sound but that's just how I feel. I'm sorry, this is just my opinion).

I feel the same . I would love for her to do a pop album with way less electronic beats, one that showcases her vocals. At times the overshadows her voice and it kinda feels like a waste.

Well, I think the autotune during X Factor was being spotted so easily because it either was used to much, or the candidates were so bad that the autotune had to correct a lot of notes, so it sounded more robotic. If someone who sings on pitch uses autotune, it is not as easy to hear.
