France is such an interesting market. Racine Carrée sold 1,3M already in France, 2x more than ARTPOP in the US :omg:

The market definitly has a LOT of potential. If only Gaga could go promote there and have smash hits there again

The French market also seems like one of the most isolated of Europe. Social media doesn't really affect album sales (see Beyoncé), other countries don't have a lot of impact on the market, but the French market has a lot of impact on the Canadian, Belgian and Swiss market which have impact on the Dutch and German market.

Tbh, she better promote a song in France and build a fanbase and make ARTPOP go like 3x platinum  :whip: she already has a commercial airing, which is great. Now she could perform ARTPOP, the third single ( :classy: ), at The Voice France, a talkshow and a news show for a bit hit, get a car commercial to use parts of the song ARTPOP and do some promotion at NRJ France for more airplay  :omgexcited:

Gaga's team focuses on earning money, while Capitol and such look for success which is better long-term tbh.

Gaga's team would never do something if they didn't earn money with it (except for useless stuff like ArtRave tbh)

Katy's team, for example, focuses on getting success. I thnk that this is better, because showing more success in charts shows that you are a bigger brand and makes media suck your dick, while low charts success makes media hate you. This is better long-term imo, because bad media damages your brand, which makes your profit in the future less and less.

I agree and dissagree.

Katy has been topping the charts since 2010. (I've always thought that they will just build her Image, that she will continue with the number 1s until one moment they will be too much to not notice her as a huge brand/name) She never overshadowed Gaga.. until 2013 and yet, who is the bigger brand ? Gaga.

And Interscope are rarely paying attention to chart numbers also...  If Gaga's song is number 2 on hot 100, they'll hardly make any attempt to push the song to number 1, while Katy's team on the other hand :toofunny:  they will kill someone just so her song can get atop the charts..  Labels are not supposed to do that.  People are supposed to send a song atop the charts, not labels...  Gaga's 3 number 1s and 1 number 2 >>>>>>>>>Katy's career

Sis, Gaga, a local act is selling more than the Queen of Pop

Agreed. Consistent chart success would always be beneficial in the long run than a discontinued one. This is where the theories that an album like Born This Way came too "early" for an artist like Gaga or the what-ifs have ARTPOP been released after The Fame Monster could be argued. In pursuit of presenting herself as someone incomparable to her contemporaries, both music-wise and image-wise, it only curtailed her opportunity to extend her massive commercial success. From being the "it" pop star who's making the best dance hooks, she turned herself as someone who should be regarded as an "artist".

Yup, and another thing is that one only needs chart success in the US for media. For UK media, you need UK success. For WW media, you need US success. BTW is generally seen as a flop. Why? Because it sold 2 mil in the US. Yet it sold 750k in Japan, 950k in the UK, which media doesn't really care about.

Applause is seen as quite a big hit, eventhough it did mediocre WW. Why? Because it was a big hit, but in the US.

DWUW is seen as a big flop, eventhough it did quite well WW. Why? Because it did quite badly in the US.

All of Katy's singles are seen as HUGE hits, because they went #1 in the US. Yet Telephone outsells most of them.

It's okay if they focus promotion on the US, but if they do, they must do it right. The US is the country where DWUW got the most promotion, a lot more than Applause too, but it didn't become a hit because the other things it needed lacked: Where was the video? Where were the radio interviews? Where were the iTunes banners? Where was The Beats commercial? Where was the Xtina remix right after the performance? Where was the Rick Ross remix on urban radio?

Don't agree at all :rip:  Who see Applause, Katy's hits etc.. as big htis ?  The GP or GGD / ATRL (fanbases) :rip:

Why are Talyor Swift first hits and Need you now and other songs that were hits only in the USA, not known anywhere else ?

Exactly. No matter how anyone tries to discredit the importance of the Billboard HOT 100 chart, no one can deny the fact that it's the music industry's most prestigious one largely due to its illustrious history with mainstream pop culture. If an artist wants to be compared with the likes of the Beatles, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Madonna, and so on and so forth in terms of commercial success, it's the chart to top. And that's troubling me the most with the fact that Gaga has only three singles which achieved it so far.

Aside from worldwide sales, I'd say YouTube views would be the closest one to indicate which song is seen bigger beyond the pop forums.
