A concrete, feasable layout schedule, videos planned and production schedules in place. Singles order in place. Promotion in place. Etc, etc, long before the album drops. For now we will just watch her do average haha don't people just see that safe doesn't work anymore? Gaga isn't doing great, but that's not because of her producers. It's because of DWUW not being a bit hit right now, and that's because of the song being too safe and having R. Kelly and Gaga on it. We'll watch her do average through the whole year if Interscope/Gaga aren't stupid enough to release Volume II, and counting it all up will make her sales great. Imagine, she sells 100k WW on average till the end of 2014, that'd mean 6 million sales already. And Gaga has tons of room left for promotion, interviews, and has about 7 single-worthy tracks left on the album. My thesis is: Single sales / album sales for the average pop star are 5 / 1, except for the first-week. The first week is around the same as the singles' first week. It also is different during christmas/black friday, but generally, singles:album sales ratio is 5:1. That means that with a big smash - 9M WW - she already improves sales by about 1,8M WW if my thesis is correct or nearly correct. Of course it differs per artist, genre and depends on where the song is promoted (TV commercials do more for the song while for example a Grammy performance or review does more for the album). It also differs per country, in Europe/Japan, selling albums is about as hard/easy as singles, in Anglophone markets and South Korea, singles sell much more than albums.
