Princess Zelda 726
*And the only solution was to stand and fight And my body was bruised and I was set alight But she came over me like some holy rite And although I was burning, you're the only light *Only if for a night So pretty and sad. I really can't stop listening to this song. Flo honestly writes some of the best lyrics I've ever heard, like Kate Bush. Only If For a Night actually reminds me of Cloudbursting and Running Up That Hill in a lovely way. Are those the actual lyrics, because websites seem to differ? But that's what I hear, and want to hear. I agree. She's my favorite songwriter ever, she's just so creative and deep. I didn't even know those were the lyrics though, I love that song even more now. No other current songwriter comes close to me - not to the level of Florence. And yeah, the moment I heard those lyrics I just... fell in love. With the song, and Flo. It's so gorgeous - the imagery she creates, of being set alight and still standing to fight. Pretty. I also love how obsessed she is with the idea/image of drowning and water, because I like that too. It started with Swimming, and I hope it carries on. Edited November 6, 2011 by LionHeartedGirl

And yes! I love her songs about the water and drowning, they're so trance-y. She has proven a bit with Only If For a Night that fire and burning are great too, though. I can imagine a song by her about the fire, with wicked drums and maybe a more obvious guitar, and soaring vocals. It would be amazing. Completely! Listening through the whole album in one go it just totally struck me how often she writes about water/drowning and how well she does it - and you're so right, she just takes you away in a watery trance. And I'd love more songs about fire! I think Flo is right at home when she's writing about these raging elements, and extremes. It suits her music perfectly. Ah, you're making me love her even more! :D

Ah, you're making me love her even more! :D Oh my God, me too! No one seemed to share the exact same opinion on Flo as me . Water is the element that fits her best. She could work a song about any element though; water, fire, air and earth. But water is the most godly. One of my favorite drowning images that I get when listening to any of her water-themed songs is in Drumming Song, when she sings: I run to the river, and dive straight. I pray that the water will drown out the din. But as the water fills my mouth, it couldn't wash the echoes out. As the water fills my mouth, it couldn't wash the echoes out. I swallow the sound and it swallows me whole till there's nothing left inside my soul. I'm empty as that beating drum, but the sound has just begun. It's so unearthly . Dammit I can't even imagine the future of Florence's musical career. How can she get any better? She's already perfect. And you! :')
Natsu 1
Here's my original post at the old GGD: There's a few more unreleased tracks and demos that I didn't know of at the time I made these albums though. And yep, there's something about water and drowning that just creates this gorgeous image - under the water, flowing hair... probably why I like mermaids. Oh, and how could I forget that part in Drumming Song? Its my favourite part: so beautiful, and so different to the rest of the song. And Swimming needs more mention because its brilliant - I'm still annoyed it wasn't a main track on Lungs. I do think If Only For a Night has quickly become my favourite Florence song though - it's ethereal. Oh seriously, what will the next album be like? How can she improve? But I know she will. Hopefully she'll get even darker and deeper, more fire, water, and death.

And yeah I get the same image with Drumming Song, it's beautiful. I love the song, but I still haven't listened to the album enough (I've listened to it nonstop but it's still not enough) to choose a favorite. I want that too! I just hope she explores a little more experimental side a bit. It'd be interesting. Maybe it's too soon though :kanyeshrug:.

The chorus... I can't really describe it, but just the music, lyrics and her vocals are what I've always wanted in a song. Ethereal, echoing, choir-like vocals about standing to fight. I'd love her to be experimental, but in what direction? I can't think of anything else that would suit her as much as Ceremonials. Can't wait for her X Factor perfomance. It's her first time on it, right? She's gonna blow them away - how they can even stand in her vicinity and say they're good singers. Edited November 6, 2011 by LionHeartedGirl

And will it be online? :flop:
