US Charts Discussion - (ARTPOP - 100K+ this week!)

Americano

I beg to disagree on that one, on the ground that I see no difference between a clear smash and a generic hit, assuming that you meant generic in terms of being relatable to a broad audience. I mean, wouldn't a smash hit requires to be something all-encompassing such as the songs you've mentioned?

And speaking of DWUW's music video, I would prefer for a Monday release. Let it ride as fast as it could with whatever attention the performance would get.

generic doesn't mean appeal It means that It sounds like a lot of songs that were hits on the radio for the last few months / years ...

And Imagine Miley does something controversial again and people talk about her the next few days and Ignore the DWUW video ? Or Gaga does something controversial and people talk about It for days and Ignore the music video .. ?

If that's the case, wasn't California Gurls generic as well, based on the description you've said? A lot heavily compared it to Tik Tok which dominated the charts after a few months CG got released. It's a clear smash and "generic" too. Same thing with Roar. As for  LTWYL, it has a great hook. And again, same thing with The Monster, isn't it?

And if Gaga does something controversial at the AMAs, wouldn't it force the audience to look up for the song she has performed? If they cannot hear it on radio, streaming online would be their most likely course of action. And if one is looking for a song online driven by interest, wouldn't it be opportune for that song to have an available music video already to at least attract as many views as possible right away?  I guess, we just have to agree to disagree.

What is going on with Unconditionally :rip:

If it fails to enter the top 10 at the very least even after she opens the AMAs with Unconditionally, then there's something to really worry about her having a You Da One moment. Other than that, I find its chart performance right now understandable, given that Roar is a huge hit.

I would have preferred if the DWUW music video wasn't s-xual and referenced the Paparazzi music video.

NewYorkCity

I want something shocking from her but not cheap a la Miley or SNL (I liked that one but...)

I prefer something shocking the way that was paparazzi performance at the VMAs.

In my opinion I think the song was released too soon. Roar is still somewhat roaring around on the charts. But yeah the AMAs will be the "make it or break it" point for both Unconditionally and DWUW!

what I mean Is that the performance may give a huge Impact (and let It have It's moment ..) and a few days later (2 or 3 at most) release the Video which can have It's own moment ... this way she will have streaming and buzz from the AMAs (the performance on Youtube will get at least 1M views the first 2 days If It's good) and then the video streams will be split for 2 weeks (giving the song some longevity)  for example from Wednesday till Sunday and then the 2nd week drop In streaming won't be that big ..
