The sonic departures from The Fame to Born This Way to ARTPOP are incredible! Her sales are mostly dependent on: FANS + MUSIC APPEAL + PUBLIC APPEAL + EXPOSURE + PROMOTION. Fans are OK, and she is slowly gaining back the public appeal, and Applause peaking at No.4 on Pop Radio gives her the first song to chart so high there since The Edge of Glory back in summer 2011, which says a lot about the music appeal. The only elements that lag are exposure (as it's unlikely she'll get to the same level of exposure she had before Born This Way) and promotion, but promotion seems to lag intentionally. There're optimistic scenarios also, which see ARTPOP selling from 600,000 to 700,000 copies in the first month. Seems like Interscope making the Dope performance a commercial on various videos was a brilliant marketing decision. I'm really here for Gaga doing Dope and DWUW on SNL. ARTPOP itunes preorder - 100k, i assume it can sell another 50k in first week ARTPOP physical preorder - 40k, i assume it can sell another 80k in first week and don't forget the Apps. Amazon is 8% of album sales, which means AP will sell 562k ( X=100*45k/7) copies. so like my estimation is 385-565k. And physical copies sales will be inflated due to the foil edition, + Maggo said we can expect around 70k last minute CMA purchases. We're good imo. ARTPOP is the 40th best seller of Amazon. are you trying to say that Katy failed to ship 30k from Amazon? that would be highly impossible since Amazon accounts for roughly 8% of album sales billboard also projected higher for Prism and yet it failed once again. there are many uncertainty in projecting album sales. who knows what trick gaga will be pulling. maybe the flying dress will give her all the promo she needs - like miley but in a good way Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Assuming that ARTPOP has sold 100K in pre-orders and assuming it does, let's say, another 50K first week, that's 150K digital sales. So that leaves the remaining 60% to be physical. That'd be 375K total. 150K digital comprising 40% of the first week sales, and 225K being physical comprising the other 60%. Basically, I'd say the Billboard predictions were spot on.
