leoj 2
If I'm honest I think the only Madonna related negativity that would've had an impact were the Express Yourself/Born This Way comparisons getting media coverage on ABC, of all places, which is one of the higest watched channels in america, and having madonna a huge pop icon with millions of fans call gaga reductive is a negative impact, whether you like it or not
dc1993 1
gaga was called the new madonna, the next big thing in pop.... in 2012 madonna called her reductive(and received huge media coverage for it).. and performed SHE'S NOT ME while performing born this way and express herself to over 100 million people.. who more than likely were gaga fans That's such a HUGE generalization. You can't use that to back up a point. Being Gay and enjoying Madonna's music doesn't make you a Lady Gaga fan by default.
Sunny 12,737
and what makes this theory.. anywhere near true.... PRISM outselling artpop, by a HUGEEEEE amount weekly WORLD WIDE and artpop free falling on the U.S album charts..... she has no one buying her album...... those fans didn't just all die..... they just stopped liking her.. Now, that is just shading ARTPOP/Gaga She has a large fanbase, that you can see here, and ARTPOP is still charting, there isn't only an U.S chart in the whole world, and getting certificated (Gold/Platinum) I like dancin', and ponies.... Smooth Criminal 2
The Express Yourself/Born This Way comparisons alone immensely hurt Gaga's career & image. If that had never happened things would have been different, a lot different. Plus that whole Madonna's "reductive" comment, which is one of the most nastiest/most vile/rude/unprofessional/distasteful/hateful comments I have ever heard coming from a singer's mouth for a fellow singer, also greatly affected Gaga's image in the industry. Also, Gaga herself is also partly responsible for her, I don't want to say downfall, so I'll say "lackluster" Era. She does a lot of talking but does very little. That creates a bad rep, eventually, especially with the fans. A LOT of people are turned off by that kind of attitude as well. I know I am. And Gaga has a tendency to shut herself off completely when the pressure becomes too much or the streets do a lot of "talking"...which might not be a bad thing since it might be her coping mechanism, BUT that does leave fans with so many questions & a few answers. And not a lot of fans want to hang around anymore. An artist of her caliber should be upfront, confident & own up to the things that go wrong...and move on with her head held up high, but sometimes she chooses to take the "Poor me" & "Nobody likes me" stance, which does not work with everyone, so a lot of people choose to go the opposite way. And this is where, Madonna gets a bit of my respect, because all of her 30 yrs career, Madonna has been "UNAPOLOGETIC" about everything that she has done. She has not given a single f*ck about anyone and has done what she wanted to. Gaga has started to care what people think about her, which is not wrong but, it is a total contradiction to the persona she has created.

leoj 2
Tbh that comment was taken out of context, It was b---hy of course coz Madge is b---hy but Madonna was only talking about 1 song. She also said she liked Gaga and thought she was very talented. She hates the comparisons because she doesn't want people to compare her to gaga, she views gaga as a unique artist and not a copycat but I think Gaga and everyone else read too much into it. Ofc this won't mean that Madonna fan's haven't taken this the wrong way too because some have but her truest fans know what she was on about. As for the second part no, lots of people are creative and wear weird clothes it's just that there are only so many stunts you can do before you get labelled as "gimmicky". Gaga needs to show the GP that she is tallented and more than her outfits and stunts if she wants mainstream success again. completely wrong.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2MkXHMI7vE that's all you have to look at.. and in fact.. madonna has a little monster with gaga's glasses eating all of madonna's iconic ideas in the background while she performs born this way during the MDNA tour...... and about the outfits.. YES.. nobody in the pop industry was doing gaga's outfits.. back then.. now everyone is wearing custom versace.. and mcqueen up the ass... and gaga's success came from her creative dresses/creative songs/dance revolution in the U.S

bigpinkenergy 1,015
getting media coverage on ABC, of all places, which is one of the higest watched channels in america, and having madonna a huge pop icon with millions of fans call gaga reductive is a negative impact, whether you like it or not that was negativity, but I don't think it had huge impact. I doubt that the majority of fans who are no longer fans decided to stop supporting Gaga because Madonna said the word 'reductive'. I don't believe that it would influence that many people. Well true but there's a small different...Madonna didn't vocally express her dislike towards Gaga until Born This Way came out. I mean they did an entire SNL skit together so I don't think Madonna fans would have a reason to hate Gaga. I agree that Madonna doesn't have THAT much influence over an artist. Afterall MDNA flopped so she obviously doesn't have the power she did in the 80's. this tbh
leoj 2
Now, that is just shading ARTPOP/Gaga She has a large fanbase, that you can see here, and ARTPOP is still charting, there isn't only an U.S chart in the whole world, and getting certificated (Gold/Platinum) ARTPOP is doing okay.. but for an album from LADY GAGA it is not doing okay.. honey BORN THIS WAY's first week numbers are at least another month away from ARTPOP which released a month plus ago....... and it is beginning to free fall despite having a song #7 on pop radio.. dc1993 1
This whole thread is based on over-exaggerations and huge generalizations Yes Madonna said "reductive" in 2012. No it wasn't very nice. No Gaga doesn't care anymore. The end.

When after single one, the album sold over 2 million copies world wide in a week........ you know what ruined her? The fact they released you and I and marry the night to promote an album, and not releasing sheibe which was the next big red one gaga hit.. and heavy metal lover.. which was one of the most unique songs from lady gaga it's like releasing summer boy and boys boys boys over just dance and poker face.. as singles... would THE FAME had one as well? HELL NO
MikeyMoonShine 0
completely wrong.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2MkXHMI7vE that's all you have to look at.. and in fact.. madonna has a little monster with gaga's glasses eating all of madonna's iconic ideas in the background while she performs born this way during the MDNA tour...... and about the outfits.. But my point still stands, the GP are only here for a while when it comes to shock value.
Illuminati Freak 2,432
I have straight guy friends at the gym who aren't even into pop music who just dismiss GaGa as a Madonna wannabe and copycat so yes the Madonna shade effect is far reaching.
