She chose him to be on the song not just because of his R&B reputation, but also because of the destruction of his reputation and image by the media (which the song was going for... I'm a bit disappointed his lines didn't emphasize on that lol). She writes what she believes is the best music, the best art, without pandering to the wishes of others. She follows her own artistic and creative ideas rather than writing for the charts. If she listened to us or the critics, her creativity would be stifled. This is exactly how she writes for her fans. By writing for herself she gives her fans the best music. Consider the classical music composer Maurice Ravel who wrote great impressionistic masterpieces. He was commissioned to write Bolero. That one work appealed to the tastes of the public but it was perceived by him as just mediocre. He wrote “Once the idea of using only one theme was discovered any conservatory student could have done as well.†It was "a piece for orchestra, without music." Yet although Ravel considered Bolero one of his least important works, it has always been his most popular. Think of the great masterpieces we would have been denied had he written everything like Bolero to get acclaim. This is exactly why Gaga does not write for the charts. She will not deny the world the very best she has to offer creatively. Gaga has been compared to Picasso. Picasso’s Cubist paintings did not receive good reviews at first, but he still painted them because he was making art he felt was great. Imagine where we would be if he had painted to please the critics instead of himself. Imagine what he would have thought of himself afterward. Image what Gaga would think of herself if she pandered to the wishes of her critics. People who are quick to criticize Gaga should think about this; it’s her artistry, her vision, her creativity, her career, her life, and therefore the decisions must be hers.
