When after single one, the album sold over 2 million copies world wide in a week........ you know what ruined her? The fact they released you and I and marry the night to promote an album, and not releasing sheibe which was the next big red one gaga hit.. and heavy metal lover.. which was one of the most unique songs from lady gaga it's like releasing summer boy and boys boys boys over just dance and poker face.. as singles... would THE FAME had one as well? HELL NO I love Scheiße but the delusions in the fan base about this song are hilarious. It would have have totally flopped as would HML. Gaga's been called a Madonna 2.0/wannabe since her debut and if she was able to punch through the TF/M days with ease I don't see how the BTW/EY thing had anything to do with it. Also, Madonna hasn't been a fixture in media since like American Life? She may get a few headlines here and there but her power is greatly overestimated by the OP. As long as she is producing the art she wants to produce, then she is not "defeated". If she starts producing art and fashion simply for sales, then she is "defeated." I'm sure you would have thought a song with the lyrics RA RA AH AH AHA ROM A ROMA MA would have flopped too if she had released speechless as a single instead... I certainly don't think that safe = success but you have to realize their are album/fan songs and then there are singles. It has nothing to do with safety it has to do with what people will like. HML was weird sounding and the lyrics would have harmed it on radio and scheiße hardly even has any lyrics. Also Venus has been performed loads and it has yet to take off critically, also remember that it was released as a promo single and yet DWUW was more popular. I believe.. that MADONNA's immense media coverage in 2012, after Born this way the album was released, on how lady gaga is reductive, and how madonna performed born this way mashed up with express yourself to one of the biggest female tours in history, split apart lady gaga's gay fanbase.. There are A LOT of gay guys just a little older than me, in their mid to late 20s.. who absolutely loathe ladyg aga because they were madonna fans, and madonna hates her.. and say gaga is a wanna be madonna. and these are people who purchased TF/TFM because they adored her and thougth she was the next big thing... until madonna comparisons popped up.... so the theory is that madonna's media influence and negative speal on lady gaga could have destroyed a portion of her fanbase...... also, I also believe that back in 2009, there was nobody doing the crazy avantgarde dresses/dance pop influenced music but gaga..... and now everyone from pitbull to rihanna are doing it...and gaga's absence for all of 2012.. and the majority of 2013... allowed the others.. to take her spot(I think her break from radio from 2010 to 2011 was a huge mistake too) .. since they were blasting their singles on radio up the ass(katy ended up with 5 more #1s from 2011 to today, while gaga had 1).. while gaga was barely on radio late 2011 even .. these are all theories, and I believe these theories led to the fall of lady gaga's immense reign over pop music.. I think she'll make a comeback, but she has to get back up to performing and releasing videos on par with herself back in BTW/TFM eras Actually, Madonna was taken out of the context quite a bit in that 'historical' interview. She may have ridden the controversy following it, but it was the internet that exploded with comparisons and the media jumped on board, as they are prone to do. And her demeanor during the whole time was "shady" as hell. Esp. that sip on the tea after the "Look it up" comment...was extra b---hy & uncalled for. Also, don't forget the BTW/Express Yourself mash-up at her concert followed by "She's Not Me"....Umm yeah, Ok. But let me ask you, did you read my post properly?
