Gaga Related Random Conversation Thread

The issue isn't whether I'm free to like him. Of course I am.

You seem to be implying that the more vile a rumored behavior is the more likely the rumor is to be true. I don't see why that would be the case. And that stuff about Gaga is just gossip, but your "casual exchanges" are not? How so?

Like I said earlier, the petition going around about Terry includes at least one blatant falsehood. That Jezebel article is just all-around terrible journalism, focused more on being lurid than any kind of facts. To me these are not trustworthy sources, maybe one step above The Examiner.

Yes you can consider my posts gossip, too.

There are quite a few professional photographers out there who do NOT have that kind of 'gossip' all over about them.

Anyway. I think LG is a unique and talented woman, and I really care about her and want her to keep succeeding. It is a long known that whoever you surround yourself with will affect you and your choices long term. The ecology of the inner circle affects everything.

In any case, it is just my PERSONAL opinion that Terry and R Kelly are the last blokes she should be palling around with.

If I had a daughter, that would be a definite no-no.

Cheers and enjoy. Once again just MY opinion.

Ok looks like you're finished talking to me, but for the record saying "its just my opinion" doesn't magically absolve you of any responsibility for what you say. Or to the truth, for that matter, as elusive as it may be.

I agree with OP. Gaga certainly receives a lot of unwarranted and unnecessary "criticism" but well thought out constructive criticism is important and I don't think Gaga responds to such criticism very well either.

Artists should only listen to feedback from other successful artists. Never the critics. If the critics really had the talent to do better, they'd be doing it, instead of just writing about it.

I don't think good critics think they are more talented or could do what an artist does but that does not make their critiques invalid or uninsightful. A critic can appreciate when an artists makes a piece of work that is coherent, intelligent, thought provoking and interesting. They can also recognise when an artist has not communicated their message effectively or if the piece in question is dull, uninspiring and uninteresting.

The idea that only "successful" artists can understand art promotes a very elitist view of art. Someone can have a great understanding of art and can be very intelligent without the technical capabilities to create something brilliant themselves and an artist who has not found mainstream success can still be an incredible artist with a lot of important things to say.

Oh, I wish.

He is just so ugh. Literally any other photographer can do what he can, he is just so boring and gross.

Out of the 1000 pics of Gaga he has taken, only a handful are worth looking at.

In video game design, it's a matter of listening to what your customers want.

You don't have people hating on games for silly personal reasons (what you wear, resentment of your past success), or fans of your last game (not business expects) obsessing about what you need to do business-wise to conquer the industry.

Actually, video game fans can be extremely petty. Take BioShock and BioShock 2 for example. Same franchise, 2 is technically the "better game" in terms of gameplay but fans complained heavily about it and some of them chose to ignore it completely. Changing anything in franchises is an incredibly risky move in the industry.

Shadow

Its not like alot of her work is subtle, though. There's people who understand (especially people/fans invested enough to follow through forums) but simply don't like it.

People may know much about her and dislike her work anyway, but what could they say that would help make what she's saying better? Everyone is entitled to dislike it and give reasons why. However, it is still from their perspective, from what they know and experiences in their life they use to judge specific aspects of what's being said and how it's being delivered (music quality, performance, what she wears, etc.).

If you told me a story about how you won an award when you were in school and how it made you feel, who am I to say to you if it's good or not even if I knew a bit about you? I'm not saying that in regards to my rights to my opinion, but in regards to your true feelings about your story and why you feel it needs to be told. My word cannot add or take away what you experienced? Can it? Should I ask you to lie a little bit to make yourself sound more impressive or relatable from my perspective? Wouldn't be true to your story if you changed it a bit then, eh? That's my point. It's all about perspective, not taking away freedom of opinion.

Do your own research.

Too bad I gave ARTPOP a good rating. Maybe she mistakenly looked at my Britney Jean review.

I used the wrong word "successful", because that sounds like "popular". I meant successful at their art, not necessarily successful financially or successful with the public. Gaga looks up to a lot of other artists, and I'm sure she'd listen to feedback from them. We know she gets a lot of feedback from Elton John. :)

But critics write for the entertainment of the readers, not to teach the artist anything (as if they could).

Well, there may be some lame blogs like The Examiner who do that, but for the most part critics are there to tell their readers whether the work is good or not before they buy the music or watch a film. Many places like Pitchfork allow people to discover new artists and promote good albums people may not have heard before. They are also sometimes there to challenge some of the themes depicted in the art, calling out people on homophobia, s-xism and providing an alternate point of view that can be intelligent.

The sort of thing you are addressing seems to be more of the deconstructive criticism the OP was referring to. That's the worst of critics but it isn't really representative of the intelligent and constructive criticism that many reputable sites and many intelligent bloggers give.
