Disco Heaven 40
DWUW has NO, I repeat NO chance to debut in the top 10. Yeah, ZERO chance. And actually I'm glad for that. For a rush release, it better wait for radio to pick it up and Gaga's team to plan the promo properly. Longevity >>>
Gerrard174 513
I'm happy DO WHAT U WANT shows a very different Gaga to the public, the one that has never been on the radio before. The variety of sound is essential for her to reach as many listeners as possible. Do you think VENUS can do well on the radio later on? Or is it too alien? we need chorus to judge venus. if the chorus is super good, then it might be another radio hit remember when BR was released? it sounded weird at first and look how it turned out venus has that strange vibe with it. i can feel that venus will be the schesisse of ARTPOP
bumblebee 2,528
Why do you guys always want the safest choices? Because a song on the radio is probably the most powerful promotion tool to attract people to buy the whole record. Since fans will buy ARTPOP anyway, singles should be designed to boost the interest of casual music fans and the general public. That's why safety is needed. ;)

Do you think I don't know these things? Risky singles are what turn out into huge smashes. Safest ones usually don't end up huge.

The variety of sound is essential for her to reach as many listeners as possible. Do you think VENUS can do well on the radio later on? Or is it too alien? I'm happy too that DWUW will show a different Gaga to the public ;) She will be successful with it, no doubt. VENUS is so strange and different, it has a "WTF" factor in it. I think Venus could do good on the radio, it is outstanding and people would immediately recognize it and search for it. There's no other song like it. Venus should definetely be a single on the road, it is what Gaga truly needs, it would shock everyone. But watch it be the Scheisse of ARTPOP. At least we'll get a video for it

I wouldn't underestimate DO WHAT U WANT though I'm not underestimating DWUW either. I'm actually VERY HAPPY that it's a single. I'm just wondering why most members in this thread want her to release the safest songs and what the 'GP would like'.

Luc 4,775
Both Venus and DWUW aren't good 2nd single choices, Venus isn't going to get played on radio a lot. DWUW won't sell a lot outside of the US, probably less than Applause (which is REALLY low - about 500-1000k sales outside of the US for Applause atm). Not to mention that it's basically predicted to debut with 50k non-pre-order sales (which will actually count after 11 November). Sorry Interscope, but DWUW isn't a strong 2nd single. DWUW mostly appeals to Rhythmic/Urban audiences which won't buy Gaga's album anyways. Gaga needs a Pop Radio smash. Better choices would've been: - ARTPOP - it still has appeal to different formats despite being risky. - DOPE/Gypsy - Ballads sell albums and she can promote a ballad everywhere without having to rehearse for a week. Next to that, ballads have universal appeal and the most important radio stations will pick it up (Top 40, HAC, AC, Rhythmic). DWUW is a great song but I just think it'd make a better third or fourth single. She already had radio behind her back and it's better to end an era with a song like this rather than a song like Venus, Swine or etc. I hope the second single will be Venus outside of the US and the third single will be one of the two ballads.
