I don't think sending it to radio affects it a lot outside of Englsh-speaking countries. First week does NOT equal a peak, especially with a promo single turned full single. Look at Unconditionally. It would have been terrible had they rush-released a second single like Venus. That could have potentially destroyed this entire era. They definitely had faith that Applause would do well, and it did. Now even if there aren't any more major hits off of the album, we can at least stay at rest knowing that Applause was most definitely a hit song.
