US Charts Discussion - DWUW IMPACTS RADIO TODAY! (11/5)

It's slowly picking up (DWUW) on radio, but a vast majority still have not added and many that HAVE added have not spun it. So for people that think an adds date isn't going to make a difference.. lol

 

It has an incredibly well AI to Spin ratio, though.  It currently has 7 million audience without even being in the top 50 chart.

I think that the spins will come in time.  For some reason, DWUW has inspired radio stations, especially larger ones, to realize how awesome Applause is.  It has been getting massive updates the past few days and may even peak at 4 if we're lucky.

 

My point is that Applause hasn't even peaked yet, so we can expect DWUW to come into full bloom later down the road.

 

When does it get adds again?

I doubt that they actually invested that much in the album or expected it to sell after the way Teenage Dream performed.  Rather, they've been focusing on Roar, which turned out to be a smash hit. 

 

Katy is still fun pop candy to people.  A music buyer has to feel justified for investing a larger amount of money into an album and Katy isn't there just yet. 

 

That is why the label decided to release Unconditionally as the second single instead of Dark Horse.  They realize that now is the time to establish Katy as a long-term artist.

Cause releasing a ****ty, incredibly boring, cheesy, cliché love song (that she butchers when singing live) will completely make her appear like a long term artist.

we'll see. from all the people (irl) that I've talked to, a lot of people think it's super boring and some of them blatantly hate it.

it will probably slay the charts though. This is the singles artist after all.

I agree with you that Unconditionally isn't that good.  The chorus is screechy (ironically enough that's what people label Gaga music) and doesn't have a hook.  There are better ballads on the album that could have been selected.  But I do think Unconditionally still could be a hit.  If not, she still does have Dark Horse as a safety net.
