Composing is creating the melody. :) NO production is creating the melody just as much as composing if not more. Composing is just the lyric and lyric melody only. In movie/ classical/ videogame/ etc. music, composition is the composing of the music itself, not the arrangement (choosing what instrument goes for which sounds). So the composers would have made the lyric melody & the background music's tunes as well I'm looking at it this way -- Gaga composed Jewels & Drugs alone, while DJWS (possibly co)produced.
